maybe someone here is more of an optimist, but can anyone point out to me anything that looked good from us in this game?

Yes re: Ben's current contract.  Reports last month suggest the Steelers will wait until next year to extend

FlagMeIke.com, not to be confused with FaceMeIke.com which is no more.  The flags are really killing the game but I think Goddell believes the masses will stay, just as we did when he cracked down on the various big hits.  Difference is I can get behind safety, but not behind slowing the game down.  Receivers are too fast, too bag these days.  I don't think this generation of defenders will unlearn what they already know

Congrats on making Mark Sanchez look like an NFL QB.

Do the zebras get paid per penalty in 2014?

I only saw pieces of the game (will hopefully catch full thing tonight), but what I took away from the group of guys running around the field in Steeler jerseys is that this team still doesn't have enough playmakers; bunch of very average players (and I'm not just talkin' about the 2s and 3s) with some top talent sprinkled in.

Average talent.  Average team.  Early prognostications leaning toward the 7-9 to 9-7 range and that's probably with #7 having to Superman a lot of games.

Maybe a bunch of guys flip the switch once the games start to count, but we all know it's just not that easy.  If it wasn't for their propensity to start the season flat, I'd be all, "Gah, it's just the preseason...," but 0-4 or 1-3 in August turns into 0-4 and 1-3 in September pretty quick.

Edit:

Whoever the guy is opposite Kurt Warner just said that BR is in the last year of his deal.....

I'm assuming that you're mentioning this because you know the guy is dead wrong and you would think an announcer wouldn't be making that kind of statement without checking accuracy, but this is also the same guy that kept calling Gradkowski, Gradowski.

Still, if they don't extend him after this season, it'll probably be a moot point anyway.

If only we could play EJ Manuel every week.  I know it's preseason but my early optimism is about gone.

Jarbust is slow and weak at the point of attack.  The DL looks worse than last year.  Mike Mitchell, who's floor I thought would be early (2006) Ryan Clark, looks like the crippled Ryan Clark from last year.  The corners are who we thought they were.

The offense looks like they don't know what the hell they want to do.  Outside zone blocking? Fail.  Spread em out? Fail. Three yards and a cloud of dust? Fail. Ben gets a pass obviously but he looked like ass, Brown, Heath and the backs looked ok.  Wheaton is not a number 2.  Justin Brown, camp darling, invisible.  Bryant looks like he never played receiver before.  Thinking Heyward-Bey may be the number four and move up to number three when Lance Moore (yuck) moves up to number two.

I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm so pissed off I won't watch them again until their next game.

Funny
I'm taking a sketch writing...

I feel bad that I'm the one that has to tell you this, bonzr, but you draw sketches, you don't write them.  You got jobbed.

Funny you say that.  About the first thing our instructor said was to NOT present scripted and fleshed-out sketches.  The idea is to pitch scenarios and improvise, take notes, improvise, refine, etc.  Then some small % ends up as a sketch.  Only two classes in, not sure if we ever get to a script.

And now for something completely different.  Man, have you checked out some Sturgill Simpson yet?  Vocal qualities of The Possum and Waylon mixed with the writing of Merle.  It's the real deal IMHO.

Do you know how many $1 lottery tickets I can buy for $100?  Really, somebody tell me b/c I'm going tonight.

With inflation?  Like, a thousand.

Disappointing their 2s beat our 1s.  I'd consider deMoating Jarbust.  He's slow as shit.
