While everyone has focused on No. 4 Tampa Bay as the most likely trading partner for No. 2 Detroit in the Calvin Johnson Sweepstakes, it's the No. 8 Falcons who might truly be in the driver's seat. Sources say Falcons owner Arthur Blank has pretty much ordered Atlanta general manager Rich McKay to do everything he can to put the team into position to land Johnson at No. 2.

what would be quite interesting is if Atlanta jumps through hoops then the raiders pull the rug from under them and select Johnson for themselves.

on the plus side, if they happen to land the big WR, he and Vick could share a "waterbottle" saving a couple hundred duckets

and would CJ be capable of turning Vick into an NFL caliber QB?

There's talk all over the local Atlanta ESPN radio, 7290 the zone, etc...etc about the Falcons moving up to #2...giving Detroit an 8th and a 2nd round pick. Calvin Johnson would help out any QB...and a deep threat like that just might give Vick something other than Crumpler to throw too.

Either way, their conference sucks...and they suck, so piss on 'em.

If they can't trade up, then it's their own fault.  If they wanted CJ so bad, they had a chance.  Offer Vick and the #8 for Oakland's #1, and watch Al Davis soil his Depends jumping for that deal.  Unfortunately, they've traded away Shaub, so they can't do that now.  Also would have gotten rid of the headache that is Vick.  Now they'll have to package a bunch of picks to move up.  If the Raiders somehow didn't go for it and picked Russell, they could have made the same offer to Detroit.
