My Ideal Day One

(#1.15) Alan Branch or Marshawn Lynch - Branch is a stud and if he's gone and Pittsburgh passes/trades down with Lynch on the board, they'll be regretting it for years as they watch him rack up major all purpose yards for a team like Green Bay.

(#2.38 = from Cardinals for Faneca; Pittsburgh also receives Arizona's '08 R2) Anthony Spencer or Justin Blalock - The more I read about Faneca and the more I think about it, I really hope this deal gets done.  Firstly, because I'm really liking Spencer.  I think he is going to be a stud pass rushing specialist.  In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he's gone by this pick.  And second, this gives them a couple picks at a point in the draft where I really can't decide between several players.  

(#2.46) Ryan Kalil or LaMarr Woodley - If the Faneca deal goes down, who they take here is largely predicated on which position they address at 2.38.  If they get Spencer at that spot, they absolutely have to get a top rated IOL.  That means Blalock, Kalil or Grubbs.  If Spencer is gone before their earlier pick and they get a guy like Blalock there, then Woodley is my guy here.

(#3.77) Ryan Harris or Ikaika Alama-Francis - Harris is my top pick here, but I've got a bad feeling he's late R2 material.  He, along with any of the interior guys I've mentioned would go a long way towards solidifying the O-line; even with the loss of Faneca.  Wouldn't surprise me if any of those guys started right out the gate.  Francis was an interviewee that's basically just an insurance policy here.  Pretty good chance he'll be gone at this spot as well.  If they're both gone...*shrugs*...maybe McBean?  Dunno.  I wouldn't even fight that much if they used this pick on...get ready for it...any of the 2nd tier QBs that might slip.  Stanton, Edwards or my favorite of the bunch, Beck.

That would be an great Day 1 -- though I would worry that Branch really is a lazy fatso who projects to be another Kennedy/DeWayne Robertson. I am also not really sold on Lynch. I love the other picks, though.

I'd prefer Carriker.

1st round --> DE Carriker

2nd round --> WR Sidney Rice

3rd round --> G Josh Beekman

Despite the fact that I think that OL is the team's biggest problem, I think that we have drafted several youngsters over the past couple of years who should be given the chance to develop before we toss them over the side.  That said, I don't want the 3-4 to 4-3 transition to create several years of uncertaintly.  I would therefore draft all defense on day 1 to expedite this philosophy change.

He is in his late 30's by now. He has only slipped to a second round hopeful? Not bad from a former #1 pick.

 1. Trade out of 15 to the mid 20's... Grab Anthony Spencer or Jon Beason as the next linebacker


2. Snag Grubbs.. hes flying up draft boards.. mid 2nd round.. good pick up with a future

3a. (Our original 3rd rounder)..Best CB there.. D Hughes should be here... Ball hawk

3b. (Acquired from trade)...Justin Durant..Potential replacement of Farrior after retirement..


I'd save WR for our 1st pick of the 4th round

Drafting a 1st round running back would be like a slap in the face to Willie..You dont take a 1st rounder n pay him a shit load more than Willie..also you got Najeh with a pretty good deal as a 3rd back?? hell no...If you take a RB.. draft one later..use lynch as bait for teams to trade up..get a shit load for thta 15 pick

 This is an issue that I've beaten to death; beyond it, really.  There isn't even a greasy spot left, just a dried, crispy shell where there was once a spot.

I'm not going to recant my opinion on Lynch because I'm sure that everyone reading this is tired of hearing it.  So, if you're interested in reading my view, here's one thread where I go into some detail on it.  And, here's another where I touch on it as well.

I'm going to stand by my opinion even though I've basically come to grips with the fact that Pittsburgh isn't going to take him at 1.15.  More than likely, in fact, it's almost a guarantee that Pittsburgh will go defense in R1.

It's a shame because I think by focusing more on need than on drafting the BPA at their position, they may pass over several better offensive candidates (Lynch and maybe Brown, if he's still there) in favor of defensive help.

I just hope that passing on Lynch* isn't the next Marino type move for Pittsburgh.

*Not saying he's a lock for the HOF or anything.  I just see it being one move they'll regret for many years to come.

Damn, aj.  You practically have me convinced on Lynch.  And I certainly agree that the BPA is the *only* way to go.  If that's Lynch, fine.  If it's Revis, fine.  If it's Carriker or Jones or some effing WR, fine.  

But gets me the BPA.

I'm starting to get a weird feeling that passing on Marshawn Lynch could end up turning out like passing on Larry Johnson.  We may end up passing on a great talent.  That time it worked out because we got Troy P, but LJ would look damn good in our backfield right about now.


I'm tired, just looked at about an hour of Derby prep races, an hour of mock drafts/draft analysis, and watched the Pirates.  So if that makes no sense, whatever.
