Verron Haynes is reportedly battling FB Dan Krieder for the fifth and final spot on Pittsburgh's roster at running back.

The Steelers are expected to keep four tailbacks if Haynes doesn't make it: Willie Parker, Najeh Davenport, Carey Davis, and Gary Russell. Kreider would seem to have a much better shot at sticking because he lead blocks.

Surely we will run the I formation sometime this year.  

Besides, hes a UFA next year... Give Davis or Russell the chance to ease in to the spot gradually and take it over completely next year.


Edit:  Unless the motivation is financial.  Kreider's cap hit is 1.16 Mil this year- and is only 210K if cut.

im pretty sure that has been the consensus the last 2 years.  His departure always gets pushed back another year.  its an annual ritual.

You guys just don't get it.

It's in the Bettis book. The Rooneys were worried that Mark Bruener was going to blow up and become his generation's Ozzie Newsome. Then the cheap-ass-Ronnzie's would have to PAY him. Like, money, and stuff.

But those clever devils launched "Operation Namut." They brought in this guy who'd block for peanuts, and love it.

Yeah, I'd be in favor of keeping Kreider and Haynes and cutting Poop Davenport.  There's no way he's that much better than the other backs and he has no upside.
