I completely disagree. I think they're ridiculous looking; who'd ever think the NFL would steal an idea from the NHL?
A captain should be known by his demeanor, not by a patch on his jersey.
I played roller hockey for 8 years, and I agree some what with your statement the C doesnt make you a captain. I was once voted to captain one of our touring teams, and It was something I wore with great pride. When I was down and felt like quitting and looked down and seen the C, I knew i couldnt do it.
Any player who would be blessed with the chance of being a captain would agree. Sure the patch dont make you the captain, but it is nice to be recognized as that, and for everyone to see. Sure a lot of guys who are true captains could care less about if they have a patch or not. But no one would turn it down with the chance to sport it. Its something that could drive guys, everyone knows they are a leader, so you better damn well play like it, or act like it.
I think its nice for team to show who there leaders are. We know who are leaders are. Do your causal fans? Does the opposing fans? I think its a nice touch
