The Steelers haven't been a "run-first" team in quite some time. At least not in the Ben era. The 2003 team had a ton of problems, lack of talent at the quarterback position being the most important.

The one thing that would help the Steelers is if they had a Mack Strong type of FB that could function as an H-back to either run block or become another pass option.  That seems to be the role that Arians is envisioning for Carey Davis, except that Davis is nowhere near Kreider's level as a blocker.
Kreider's actually not too bad catching out of the backfield. He seems to catch the balls that are thrown to him and usually makes something happen. Granted he doesn't get the opportunity very much and might be much less effective if the defense ever thought there was a possibility of him getting the ball, but in the opportunities that he does get he seems to make the most out of them.

OK Chris. Now that we have practiced kissing and cuddling, we'll practice eating a fancy restaurant.

Gotta second that.  I saw Davis get stood up in the hole a couple of times on plays where Kreider surely would have won the battle.  But hey, he did catch a pass!  Guess that makes it all worth it.

(Can you tell I'm a bit bitter about the absence of Kreider?)
