Conference record is the first tie breaker
Indy has 2 losses, Pats and Chargers...
We have 1 to Denver.

That's actually really huge. If it remained like this, we wouldn't face New England until the AFC Championship, and would get the first round bye.
But looking at the Colts' schedule for the rest of the year...
11 Sun. Nov 18 Chiefs 1:00 p.m. ET 12 Thur. Nov 22 @ Falcons 8:15 p.m. ET 13 Sun. Dec 2 Jaguars 1:00 p.m. ET 14 Sun. Dec 9 @ Ravens 8:15 p.m. ET 15 Sun. Dec 16 @ Raiders 4:05 p.m. ET 16 Sun. Dec 23 Texans 1:00 p.m. ET 17 Sun. Dec 30 Titans 1:00 p.m. ET
...hopefully the Jaguars or Titans can give them at least one more loss, because I doubt that the Steelers get through the 1-2 punch of New England and Jacksonville going 2-0.
At BEST, I think we finish 13-3, so we're going to need the Colts to lose at least one more time.

I don't care if Lovie Smith and Tony Dungy are black. Good for them. But that doesn't change the way I feel about them. The longer we keep looking at guys like Tony Dungy and Lovie Smith as "BLACK HEAD COACHES" as opposed to just "coaches" the longer race will continue to be a problem. --DoctorJohnnyFever

How sweet would it be for the Patsies to win out the regular season only to lose to the Steelers in the AFCC? Talk about payback. Now. Talk about it.

Presuming that Indy eventually gets healthy, they are nobody that you want to face at home. That's a huge factor for them.

Indy was missing Marvin for that game, IIRC.
Anyway, main point is that Indy is a tough customer in a controlled piped-noise climate, nowhere near as much of one in the great outdoors.
Freeney's now out for three, and that may get the Steelers the loss they need for a one game cushion and command of its own destiny. Amazing.
Jax looks to be on the come as well. At least the Steelers seem to have focus thus far, despite the H1 crud vs. Cleveland.

ESPN is reporting that Freeney's gone for the year. Indy could be the first NFL team to adopt the nickel defense as their base scheme.
