I just noticed that Willie Parker is currently the leading rusher in the NFL - he has a 17-yard lead on Adrian Peterson.

If he holds on, I believe he'll be the first Steeler to ever lead the league in rushing. As best I can find, Franco finished second in 1975, Barry Foster lost the lead on the seasons final week in 1992 to finish second behind Emmitt Smith, and the highest Bettis ever finished, as a Steeler, was third in 1996 and 1997. Although, had he stayed healthy in 2001 I think he'd have taken it.

Ultimately, the most important thing is wins, so if the Steelers win by throwing every play, great, but it's an interesting side story to watch down the stretch.

It's hard to believe a Steeler has never led the league in rushing. It would be nice to see Willie lead the league in rushing but I don't see it happening.

IMO, after next week Parker won't be in the lead. We always have trouble running against the Jags. Especially with our spotty o-line play this year. Plus in week 17 we have to face a tough Baltimore D. It will be tough for Parker to with the crown win those 2 tough run stopping teams.

That is all well and good, but what the Steelers need is a big back to be successful. </sarcasm>

Most yards or not, I am begining to dislike Fast Willie. A yard here a couple yards there, touch him and he's down. Take a look at how many TD's he has. I think it's 2.

And 80% of that is a function of leaky line play.  And every guy on that line has gotten beat on running plays.  Even the might Faneca has allowed guys to get the inside route on him.  When Willie gets the ball, and is met imemdiately with someone who figured the right gap to shoot, over and over again, how is that Willie's fault?  If Willie get the handoff but the center gets bulled streight back into him and the DTs are there a half second later, what's he doing wrong?

Our pass protect is mostly decent.  Our run blocking is awful.  Just awful.  This is the worst run blocking I've seen from a Steeler line in a long, long time.  If we improved the IOL alone, I think we'd see a huge improvement on negative runs and short runs.

Oddly, I think the OTs are where the pass pro needs upgraded.  So we're kinda sore all along that line.

I think it's almost a miracle that FWP is leading the league in rushing when he gets hit in the backfield 10 times a game.

As for TDs, I'd like to see us keep him in the game in the red zone, and possibly on 3rd down as well.  He's a better blocker than Dump or Davis, IMO.

Parker is a victim of the Bruce Arians offensive philosophy. Without the benefit of that lead-blocking fullback, Willie is getting hit, held up and taken down behind the line-of scrimmage on just about every play run out of the single-back set. I cringe every time I see that formation on 1st and 2nd down.

Regardless if it is FWP or the line, I'd rather have 3-4 yards per than 25 on 3rd and 2 then 0-1 for the next 10 carries.

Anyone see Ron Dayne last night.  We should have picked him up in the last coupla years.

Dayne wasn't fighting off 7 guys in the box, penetration at the LOS, and a lack of holes opened by the line.  Fuck, I coulda run for 100 yards with that line play.  Kubiak had that shit spread so wide it was like an otismalibu porno pussy.

Yeah, but when you consider that he averages 4 to 6 more carries a game than every back in the league, it's not too surprising.

What really amazes me is that AP is averaging 6+ YPC.  That's sick.

Back to WP for a second, I don't know why, but I've got this sinking feeling that he's going to be kinda worn down come playoff time.  When speed is your biggest asset, that doesn't bode well.

*EDIT:  Just looked up his carries, he's probably going to carry it 350-375 times when the regular season is over.  Man, that's a boatload.
