That is a very interesting proposition.
What do the rest of you guys think?
God know finding a good center ain't easy (see: Mahan, Sean)
I've seen Dirt recently, but I don't think he's comin' back....

I like the idea of Faneca at center, however, I don't see it happening.
Someone will offer him some ungodly contract that he can't refuse, like what washington offered randal el.
I think Faneca would make a fine center, who would be able to lead and direct some of the young linemen we will be bringing in from the draft.

Why exactly would Ellen Faneca be interested in moving to center? He won't even take fair market value at guard, and with respect to his Steelers career, in his own words,

Agree with penso on this. Tonight will be a barometer. Are the Steelers a legitimate SB threat this year or next? Is Faneca going to be the same player two years out? Is being a center going to prolong Big Red's career? Mike Webster aside, most centers start to wear down and out by 34-35.
If it were a matter of just fixing one position (OC) and the Steelers had O-line depth, maybe you consider a move like this. After all, the only reason that Mahan played center at TB was that John Wade was injured and Mahan, as reserve guard, could fill in. When Wade returned, Mahan went back to #3 guard. Anyway, the PS are thin on the line, and at this point, fixing one problem creates another.
