On a side note Ben had 0 300 yrd games this year. That just strikes me as odd as good of a year as he had!

I suspect Ben and Max both get deals done in quick succession.

It has been eerily quiet. I thought that there would at least be some chatter but nada. Hopefully soon but I am sure that something will get done.

Not surprising. It'll get done and probably be announced Monday due to that LTBE bonus due.
I hope its like a 7 year deal, and Omar is able to give us some more cap relief by the way they structure the contract, so we don't have to worry about another Ben contract any time soon, and have some cash to try and plug some of the special team or WR holes in FA.

I'm sure the $36M isn't all just SB. Some has to be roster and other bonii; at $36 over 8, that's $4.5M min per; I have to think this ballons out, both in bonus and salary, in later years, tho' the likely cap hit per will still be >$5M for most of the deal.
Be interesting to see how they structured. I think the 8 years and $36M are the msot surprising aspects here; in reality, maybe this deal's more of a 6-year, let's renegotiate in 2014 type of thing?

wow that's huge! Need to see how the deal is structred, but nice to have it done. I would have thought 8 years 70 mill. or 80 max. Does this make him the highest payed QB in the League?

maybe this deal's more of a 6-year, let's renegotiate in 2014 type of thing? I would say doubtful. Roethlisberger will already be 34 in his last year of contract. Even by generous estimates, he's still 2-3 years past his prime then. I'm not worried about an extension- I just hope this contract doesn't hamper the team when he gets on into his mid-30's. I agree that the Steelers did what needed to be done...but I am a bit uneasy over how long the contract is. .WiH.

The longer we keep looking at guys like Tony Dungy and Lovie Smith as "BLACK HEAD COACHES" as opposed to just "coaches" the longer race will continue to be a problem. --DoctorJohnnyFever

Geeeezzzzz-us...36 million in guarantees??
Wow.
I was hoping his '08 cap hit would go down. With that kind of coin, I'd be happy if it just didn't go up. Hopefully, he doesn't suffer from the Romo effect after inking this big deal.
Apparently, the market's pretty good for "game managers" this year.
Now, Ben just needs to work on his QB sweep skills.

I am thrilled, a lot of coin to be tied up in one position, but good to know that we won't have to worry about the QB position for close to a decade. Now let's find some people to protect this man and start racking up some W's!!

Eddie B. says $25M in SB, hence $11M in other guarantees (roster, etc.). But anyway, just over $3M per in SB. Figure most or all of the $11M "other" comes late in that deal, say, the last 2 years... And likewise, the $66M salary averages $8.25M per, but comes backloaded, for a 2013 "let's see where we are with Ben at 31" kinda thang. Some of that $11M be accounted for by converting existing bonuses, I think.

Pompeani must have been reading Y2J here. He's parroting the same info, the bastard.
If this is an 8-10 with $30M, it's MUCH bigger than I expected. So which one of you newbie ho's is it? I promise ya Pompeani is not my source on that. Not that it means anything either way, but the KDKA news is the last place I'm going to for inside info. Not like I was sitting on some bombshell, and it doesnt really matter as everythings out there and the ever-aspiring Cleveland Browns don't have BBR. Despite them being hailed as a Super Bowl contender in various outlets. (IE: Mike and Mike ESPN. Aka Fag and backup DL ESPN). PittPa, great fn pic. Tremendous. Put up or shut up... we miss the girls! What does he mean by that? Im confused. Hope you can help stri...I mean clarify. Now let's find some people to protect this man and start racking up some W's!! I agree. Only that our franchise newly-well-paid-QB won 10 games and went to the Pro Bowl last year (where logic would dictate he SHOULD have started...Manning didnt have Ben-quality #s) while our lead TB was at the top of the league before he broke his leg. Ben does nothing but rack up Wins. I understand but dont sell short with the "start racking up some W's" quotation. Dude has a better winning percentage than all other QBs but Marino at this point in his career. I'll see what I can do..... Show em? I agree that the Steelers did what needed to be done...but I am a bit uneasy over how long the contract is. He's a winner like you've never seen. Most of ya....little young ass whippersnappers. Seriously though, Ben is a killer. I'm not going out of my own way. I have been lambasted for my praise of other peoples talent (You down wit OPT?!) but I can sit online tonight and say that one of the best 3 QBs in the league will be ridin with my side for the rest of his career. Who want's some? I agree that the Steelers did what needed to be done...but I am a bit uneasy over how long the contract is. Based on? An 8 year deal to a 25-year-and a-day-year old. Prime seasons for his position. And you're gonna sit here and worry about Ben's QB rank 8 years down the road? Fuckin insanity. I'm not saying you should feel one way or the other but dude wtf. Ben is gonna be around whether anyone likes it or not. I am saying youre insane to worry about Roethlisberger's cap impact 8 flippin years from now. From my 'point he's the best QB in the division and we'll always be the fave with LeBeau and hoping that he doesnt get railed by some New Yorker on 2nd ave.
