In addition to a pay raise, the Steelers are also in the process of adding another weapon to Roethlisberger's arsenal. Pittsburgh hosted former Vikings running back Mewelde Moore on Sunday and his signing appears imminent.

Moore will provide Pittsburgh's offense with the legitimate receiving threat out of the backfield it had lacked. He's also likely to serve as the team's primary kickoff and punt returner.

Goodbye Davenport?

SING MAYWELDING MORE!!1

Meh, I don't know about the move.  Living in Vikings country I know enough about this guy to know I am not too excited about the move.  If they brought him in to be the primary kick returner, great, he can sure do that.  I don't expect this to be a move that says goodbye to Dookie though.  Mewelde has been notorious for being soft, and has been in both Tice's and Childress's doghouse because of his inability to both stay healthy and to play through minor injuries.

So, like I said, a good move special teams wise, but I don't expect him to add a whole lot to the offense at all.  At best, he'll provide a good 3rd and long back who can make a catch out of the backfield and pick up some first downs, think a very poor man's Kevin Faulk.

Yeah, I think he's primarily the new Rossum; anything he adds to the run game is icing.  My worry is that this doesn't push out Dookie, it pushes out GR...  I really want to see what that kid can do...

Meh...it's a move.  Is he really better than adding a mid round draftee?

Better?  No.  But given our dearth of PR/KR reliability, and lack of draft picks, it's a good move.  We could still draft a return man slash WR/RB just to ensure we have STs covered.

This was mentioned in the Ben article at SCI.

My hope is we are grooming GR to be the eventual every day back to replace FWP several years down the road.  I agree the addition of Moore would be KR and depth.  I think he'd filll the vacancy left by Haynes?

If that's the plan then we probably won't even think of a RB until much later unless a surprise becomes available under the BPA theory.

Unless we release Ced and sign some FA WR (which is becoming more unlikely by the passing hour),  I say day 1, you'll see OL, WR, DL taken, and day two another OL/DL plus BPA.

Interesting to note re: Moore as 3rd down COP back.  His career stats thus far are  264 rushes for 1285 yards (4.9 per!) and 116 recepts for 1093 yards (9.4).  Not a big guy, but a decent inside runner; if he lines up in the backfield he's a decent dual threat.

I'll just be happy if he can block somebody...cause Davenport sure can't.
