Hard to know how to read this. I'd LIKE to believe that this is an isolated incident, anger and frustration that just boiled over in the moment. He didn't run from the cops, he corroborated the story, he went to anger management, and it seems as if he didn't even really fight the charges. Perhaps he realizes that he made a terrible mistake and is truly remorseful.

On the other hand, I've never seen a domestic abuse case that was a one-time thing. Guys who hit a woman or hit a child are notorious for saying they are sorry and genuinely mean it--at the time. Only to have their wife/child show up with more bruises a few weeks later.

Best thing for both of them is to go their separate ways and start over--but again, that's the exception rather than the rule.
