Just wondering, do you think we'll use this as leverage to massively restructure Mahan? Or cut him and try to resing him to a much more reasonable deal?

My thought Mahan stays as-is this year:
1) We need the OL depth
2) Base salary not bad, but not great 2.1M
3) Might actually do very well at LG and be the answer there?, dont know if anyone knows.
If he is a backup this year, all bets are off for next year:
1) Base salary increases to 3.1M
2) 2009 Dead money 800K, 2010 1.6M do-able.
3) Many pressing resigns/FAs etc to do in '09
4) Should have been able to draft depth in 08' or sign via FA.

I'm not so excited about Hartwig....the best to hope is that he will be decent, not great.
Still, it frees us from drafting a C this year. The draft "experts" seem to agree that their is no great C to be had in this draft. We can try next year (if Stapleton does not appear to be the answer).
I think Mahan should be gone. He did not seem strong, and I cannot believe he is good enough to start at guard. He might be a bit of insurance, but we could have a similiar player at a lower price. 2009's price for him is the cincher. Dump him now.
I still think we are forced to burn 2 of our first 4 picks on OLine, depending on value at the time of each pick. I'm hoping for Albert at this point, and praying a solid OT prospect falls to us in the second. If a steal at DL falls, then I'd settle for that, and go with BAP on OL in subsequent rounds.

Wow that is a nice suprise. So now we made need only 1 OL in this draft. This opens the door for anything in rnd 1.
Disagree.
I like the signing a LOT, but anyway you scramble it, you're still going to have at least 2 guys starting on our O-Line that simply weren't. very. good. last season.
I'm still all about using 2 of the first 3 picks to take O-linemen. And if the other pick is a D-lineman, I'd be pleased as pie.
.WiH.
Yep. We got a bunch of mediocre guards that add nothing by plenitude. So, draft a LT and an OG, maybe Albert and Rachal?

Before we get
too excited...
Maybe this just means Mahan gets cut.

The only thing this changes for the draft is which OL position we'll be shopping for. Should not change our overall focus at all. We've got two guys signed to one-year tenders, a center who was cut by another team, and a G/C who looks like a very overpriced backup, who may not even be here.
Not to mention a "LT" with chronic back trouble and a LT/RT who has yet to sign a deal that we can afford.
I'd say OL remains the priority.
