Pittsburgh Steelers first-round draft choice Rashard Mendenhall was robbed at gunpoint while walking along the city's lakefront, according to a report in the Chicago Sun-Times.
The former Illinois running back was with another companion along the South Side walkway when he was robbed of his wallet, phone and cash, sources familiar with the investigation told the newspaper.
"It was obviously a scary moment," his Mike McCartney said, according to the Sun-Times. "But he is fine. He is doing great. He said he doesn't have anything that is worth his life."
Reports said the two alleged perpetrators wore black hoodies and ski masks.
Last year, both New York Knicks center Eddy Curry and then Miami Heat forward Antoine Walker were robbed at gunpoint in their homes.
Mendenhall was taken with the 23rd pick in the first round by Pittsburgh after he set University of Illinois single-season records for rushing yards, touchdowns and points.
Mendenhall played for Niles West High School and is from Skokie, Ill.

Not only am I concerned about the lack of breakaway speed that Vinman questioned, but isn't this an exact wonderlic scenerio:
You are walking along the Southside walkway on a nice day in the spring when you observe 2 people from afar approaching you wearing black hoodies and ski masks. Do you:
A. Turn and go the opposite direction
B. Use your phone to make a call
C. Tell them you were just a first round draft pick
D. Continue walking assuming they simply feel a chill in the air
E. Flash some "bling"
could lead to some questionable intelligence as well..........

I just heard the news that they apprehended the 2 suspects. Apparently Rex Grossman and Cedric Benson haven't stolen enough from the NFL so they decided to rob someone who actually has talent.

Grossman tried to throw his gun away and threw it right to a police officer. Benson tried to run, but he only got two yards. |
