I heard they were playing Friday, so I set it up to record last night.  Kind of early, 5:30 here and 7:30 eastern.  It is on NFL Network for those not in the Pittsburgh area.

Here's what I'm thinking.  My wife wants to take a little get a way vacation over Thanksgiving.  Have access to some smokin deals in Mexico over that week, but airfare is $900 each, for 4 of us.  I'm thinking we plan a 4 nighter in Pittsburgh and take my girls to a Steeler game.  We would probably want to go in Late Sept or early Oct though.  YEAH BABY!!!!!!!  I'll email her my suggestion to see what she thinks.  I need more Steeler garb from the Strip District.

Thanks for the info, BV.  I was just going to ask that.

Are all of their non-nationally televised games going to be broadcast on the 212 in real time?  In past years, I seem to remember the NFL network doing reruns of games, but that usually meant you had to wait a day or two to watch a game to which you already knew the outcome.

The Eagles game is live on NFLN and the Vikings game is live on CBS.

The other 2 games will be on NFLN, but shown after the fact.

I am supposed to get it on my cable company through FSN Pittsburgh, but since I am in Parkersburg, WV, my guess is it will be blacked out.....grrrrr :bang:

You're welcome to join us at the local watering hole Friday night. There's enough inbred crackers around here, that you'd feel right at home.

Big Ben to start in limited action on Friday
Wednesday, August 06, 2008
By Gerry Dulac, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Even though he has been limited in practice the past four days because of a groin injury, Ben Roethlisberger will start and probably play no more than one series in Friday night's preseason opener against the Philadelphia Eagles at Heinz Field, Coach Mike Tomlin said this morning.

Tomlin said all four quarterbacks are scheduled to play against the Eagles, with the order being Roethlisberger, veteran Charlie Batch, rookie Dennis Dixon and free-agent rookie Mike Potts. Tomlin, though, said Roethlisberger will "probably not" play more than a series.

Four players have already been ruled out of the game -- Pro Bowl safety Troy Polamalu, Pro Bowl nose tackle Casey Hampton, safety Anthony Smith and tight end Cody Boyd. Polamalu and Hampton remain on the physically unable to perform list.

Rookie Rashard Mendenhall, the team's No. 1 draft pick, is among three players who are scheduled to return kickoffs, along with newcomer Mewelde Moore and wide receiver Willie Reid.

Moore, who was signed in free agency from the Vikings, will return punts with former Pro Bowl returner Eddie Drummond, who was signed last week; and former Olympic skier Jeremy Bloom.

OK.  OK.

Odds Wille "no, not that Willie" Reid muffs or fumbles a KO or PR?

Who's willing to give me 10:1 it happens?  5:1?

I'm in NC, and last year the direct feeds of Steeler Preason on FSN Pitt were blacked out -- I was forced to watch the taped rebroadcasts (which I DVR) on the NFL Channel.

Not sure why sometimes I am allowed to watch FSN Pittsburgh, and sometimes not. For instance, The Mike Tomlin weekly press conference is blacked out live, but I can watch in on Savran (which I also DVR).

Anyone know what the deal is?

It is an NFL deal. If you are not considered to be in the "market", you miss out on preseason games and press conferences. You aren't supposed to be a Steeler fan in NC, you are supposed to like the Panthers...So say the powers that be.

So your cable carrier doesn't have NFLN?  I assume if you get FSNPitt you have cable.

This sucks! I have to be at the Va. Beach Oceanfront with a bunch of Irish dancers on Friday night. I think I'll wander along Atlantic Avenue & find a bar with the game! And I WILL be sporting some Black & Gold...

Don't even get me started about my cable company not having NFL Network. Pisses me off. Still won't budge, they used to have it, charged $5 a month for the Sports Tier, but apparently NFL Network wants to be on Basic Cable, so BAM! No more NFL Network.

Would LOVE to, but the missus wants to keep our LAME local programming which DirecTV does not include, so DirecTV for me.

Buy her this and by the time she realizes it's not the local WV stations, football season will be in the books.

In my opinion, no. But she wants to watch our local yocals. The only way we can do that is using an antenna, and we can't get a good enough signal. BELIEVE ME, if the missus would be on board, it would be done yesterday.

We have the Charter bundle (phone, cable, internet) and NFLN jumped ship during the season the Steelers won the belt. Bastards. It had been part of some goofy sports package, but NFLN wants to be offered like ESPN.

Luckily, the guy who manages the bar where we watch the games, signed up for NFLN.

That was my situation exactly, we had Charter (now it is SuddenLink).

Charter service has been pretty reliable for us.

But they don't tell you when your special pricing ends, so you suddenly get hit with an inflated bill. Then I have to call and bitch someone out until they drop it back down. Last time I got them to lock me in for 12 months at one price, but it took some time and a 'transfer to my supervisor'.

I should call before the fact this time...maybe save some phone time.

Might not be cost effective now, but "back in the day" when I 1st got DirecTV, there weren't any local channels offered.  I got the lowest base package from the cable co.  It was only the local channels plus a PBS and something else, for $9.99 per month.  So DirecTV was "input 1" and cable was "input 2" on the TV.  Since I watch very little network TV, it was a non-issue but we could still watch the local news.
