Steelers' Townsend to miss Cleveland game
Roethlisberger goes through full workout, listed as probable

Friday, September 12, 2008
By Gerry Dulac, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Cornerback Deshea Townsend did not practice for the third day in a row and is not expected to play in Sunday night's game in Cleveland, forcing Bryant McFadden to start for the first time since the final game of the 2006 season.

Townsend (heel contusion) has been listed as doubtful on the team's official injury report, meaning there is a 75 percent chance he won't play.

Also, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger went through a full workout for the first time this week and is listed as probable. Roethlisberger has a sore right shoulder that has limited his preparation.

Time for B-Mac to step up.  A contract year should be motivation enough for this guy.  He didn't go out and hire Drew Rosenhaus for nothing last season.  IMO, up to this point, the only thing he has proven to me is that he's unable to take Townsend's job.  Hopefully he steps up on Sunday shows something.

Hope he's not out for an extended period. I don't think there's any dropoff in physical ability between McFadden and Deshea (in fact McFadden is probably the better athelete), but Deshea is one of those "coach on the field" guys. I believe that Woodley attributed his pick Sunday to Deshea basically telling him where to be.

Plus it's great having McFadden as the nickel guy.

I'd say there's an 81% chance of that happening.

Thought B-mac played pretty dang well.  Pick and a huge breakup vs. Braylon Edwards late in the game.
