My friend and the brooklyn bridge.

I had a friend from the neighborhood. Drinking buddy, liked nice clothes and good food, never said no to whatever substance was on offer. Had a daughter who lives over in Europe, Switzerland, I think it was, not sure. He was known in just about every bar from Union Square to Park Slope, and was a notoriously filthy-mouthed drunk. Somehow, the fact that he was about 5'3'', sported a porn 'stache and a mohawk, and rolled out his invective in an accent that sounded vaguely like Cheech made all his swearing and brawling endearing.
Anyhoo, he took off his shoes and jumped off the bridge yesterday.

Thanks fellas. I guess he went out on his own terms. Gotta admit, it's a pretty spectacular way to go.

Penso, I am so sorry.
My cousin's college roommate jumped into the Hudson when we all lived in NYC.
It's an amazingly sad & humbling thing to know someone who feels that desperate.
Godspeed to him.

What is it with leaving the shoes? I've heard of that before. It just seems odd. But no doubt he exited on his terms.

Ya know, I'm not sure. There's a strong symbolic connection between being barefoot and being dead, and I'm not sure what it comes from. Maybe finny knows; I can think of examples, but I can't account for its etiology.

I am all 100% for your loss, Penso.
It's really a shame that you won't be able to avenge said fantasy football loss to me in the playoffs as I am NIT-bound this go-round.

Agreed. Although 'tis wholly relevant that neither Pensodyssey nor I have ever been dead. Ever.

Looks like you've been missing a lot of work lately.
I wouldn't say I've been *missing* it, Bob.
