http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3759665Condolences to the family. Don't know if it was expected or not. I understand it's tough on anyone. Not wanting to be a heartless bastard for what comes next - it's purely football only, Patsie hatred rant. Not wanting to be disrespectful. BUT... if given the fact that his father would die in-season, it shows yet another example of the incredible good luck of the Patsie organization. Consider:
A. Lives in LA, 3000+miles from NE.
B. However, he dies on Monday, service on Wednesday, enough time for Matt to get there and back.
C. He dies while the team is already in Cali in the midst of back-to-back West Coast games.
D. They're playing the suck-ass Raiders (although there isn't a single West Coast team that doesn't completely suck this year, so that may be immaterial).
Speaking of which, in the yet another odd "coincidence" department, they have 4 West coast games; they're scheduled in 2 two week blocks, giving them the opportunity to spend a week and save two cross country flights. Jets have same schedule, yet they have no back to backs, so four trips for them. Bills and Phins don't have to go West coast as schedule dictated otherwise, but they both have several long road trips with no option to combine into one trip.
