Heard the crew at halftime on NBC:  "I would NEVER have overturned that call...that one play had a major impact on the playoffs..."  blahblahblah.

So, we get to hear all about how our division title was bogus and Harbaugh is whining about it and all that bs.

Screw that.

I don't know that the call should have actually been overturned (the best angle I saw was an overhead view, looked like he was in).  I don't know what the rule says about two feet in the end zone (heard that brought up at ESPN).  But I do know that, if they marked the ball at the one inch line, that did NOT mean "game over" by any stretch.

At the least, we run the clock down, kick the FG, and tie it up.  So spare me the melodrama about "one play" changing the entire season.  In all my years of griping about officials  tickedoff tickedoff tickedoff, I have learned one thing:  One call rarely, if EVER, decides a game, much less a season.  For every one that goes against you, someone could probably find 2 that went FOR you.

Consider the source: Chris Collinsworth.

Whats funny is I really thought the Steelers got jobbed by the officials by the lack of calls.  A couple PIs and holds should have been called.   A couple of the holds were ticky tacky called on the Steelers.

Guess it all evens out in the end.

It's a moot point, IMO, as Santonio ccontrolled the ball, it was across the plane by at least a 1/4 of the ball.

Yeah, the whining on this will last all week.  Hell, I bet there's already an article in the Baltimore Sun ... or did they go bankrupt?

Yeah, I heard that too.  Collinsworth sounded like he agreed it was a touchdown, but wouldn't overturn it.  Screw Olbermann and Ray Ray fluffer Patrick.  Costas I respect - at least he defended his position by saying whichever way it went he wouldn't have overturned it as too close to call.  And some credit to Collinsworth for noticing the referee on the end line who made the initial call was screened by a defender.

Let the hate flow.  It was obvious during the broadcst which way they wanted it to go.

Looks like the Cowboys are going to beat the Giants.  Romo to Whitten on the clutch first down on 3rd and 9.  TD next play.  Wonder if TO will bitch about not getting the ball on that play too.

He had 3 catches for 38 yards.  He'd would be bitching but the press is too busy asking about the "controversy" from late in the week.

If the rule is two feet in the end zone, clearly it was a TD and should have been overturned.

If the rule is breaking the plane of the goalline, then it did. Santonio caught the ball, with the front tip of the ball over the goalline. I really didn't think they would overturn it though, based on that.

I think in that situation, had it not been overturned, a QB sneak for the win had to be the call. Don't hand it off. Just lean into the endzone.

Lost in all of this is the fact that "the greatest defense of all time with the greatest linebacker and safety of all time with 99 future hall of famers blah blah" let the 26th ranked offense go 92 yards in 3 minutes. Maybe the sports media should focus on that?

If there's any blame to go around, it ain't for the officials.

I actually heard a "Blatimore" radio guy say the same thing.  He is winning me over a little bit at time as he admits he hates Hines but would love him if he were a Raven.  Honest...

I'll even grudgingly give credit where credit is due here:  Ray-Ray, after he whined about the call, did say, "They made plays and we didn't.  Doesn't matter what the call was, they made plays and we didn't."

Sounded like a guy who just let a team go 92 yards on him.

BTW, I think the definitive replay was the overhead view that I saw on NBC.  I was a bit unsure until I saw that one, but the overhead view was pretty clear.

I agree.  The overhead sold it for me as well.  Either way, doesn't matter.  Still a "W."

Either we went 92 yards in the closing minutes against the "best defense in football" or we went 91.9. Either way we outplayed them the entire game and deserved the W. I honestly think if someone's entire fucking body is in the endzone it should be a TD. If he caught the ball before going out at the sideline the spot would go where his feet where correct? Why change the logic in the endzone? Regardless of that, I think the rule is ambiguous. Does the ball have to cross the plain after he establishes possession (that whole "make a football move" thing) like before going out of bounds, or does it just have to cross at some point? I think when the ball first hit his hands it crossed the plain, but his momentum carried him out of the endzone. Is it a question of where he established possession or a simple matter of just crossing the plain? If it's the latter it's a TD. If it isn't, well tough shit for the Ratbirds I guess. They should have taken care of business earlier. They didn't, so we are the division champs. Fuck them. End of story.

I'm just glad that the Ravens once again have a head coach that I can despise.  He's not quite to Bill-Dick level; but, after hearing his post-game, he's taking some huge strides in that direction.

I'm with ya on that one preach.  And I've actually softened on Billick - love those beer commercials where he's on the sidelines and the doofus guys are up in the booth/luxury box.  The one with Ditka yesterday was hilarious.

BTW, love the new avatar whitmer.

This is the reason I love Tomlin. Could never picture him making little bitchmaid comments about officials. He would have pointed out all the mistakes his team made and the oppurtunities they missed instead.

Tomlin is the shit, liked one of his pressers last week when describing the "mutual respect" both teams have for one another.  His little "at least from our end of things" description was gold.  I really dont recall ANY time the ravens or its players gave the steelers any respect.  was it this year or last year when they Baltimore had their asses handed to them and they boasted about holding FWP in check??

Oh, that was last year.

After Ben threw 5 td passes on them.  And, after Hines Ward knocked out Ed Reed and lit up Bart "Wish I Was a Hit Man" Scott.

Even when they give credit they take it away.  Ray Ray following the game said that the D shouldn't have let the drive the length of the field.  I'm thinkin', that is a rather classy thing for a guy like him to say.  Then he follows it with, "of course they got the call wrong but..."

How about just saying that you got beat.  I am amazed that the Ravens never even fake humility especially the defense.  I guess if I were a fan I would refer to it as swagger.  Since I'm not, they just look like asses.

It's hilarious, but I think as more and more people are seeing it, especially the overhead view, they are changing their minds. The guys on Monday night countdown (just happened to flip it on and they were talking about it) all favored Pittsburgh except for perrenial Steeler hater Tom Jackson. What the fuck did we ever do to that guy anyway?

They asked Ditka and he said something to the effect of: "I don't care about the call. Big Ben drove them 92 yards in 3 minutes and that's all that matters. And if they wanted to put a bounty on Hines Ward they forgot to strap on their helmets."

Yeah, I heard Ditka and his Ward props.  That dude is a year or two away from the next Madden.  Does he ever completely finish a thought/sentence before moving on?

LOL, that's Ditka.  But I'll still take his analysis over the Collinsworths and other douchebags out there.  Ditka knows his shit, and he's no bandwagon hopper.  And he can be pretty funny.
