Many teens don't keep virginity pledges

Teens who take virginity pledges are just as likely to have sex as teens who don't make such promises -- and they're less likely to practice safe sex to prevent disease or pregnancy, a new study finds.

Ya think? Gosh, if only there was a prominent political figure with a teenage daughter who could be an example to us all.

Its a "well known" fact that Mormon girls get around the the whole virginity thing by reasonably reasoning that oral and anal sex don't count. Not that there is anything wrong with that...but just goes to show that loopholes (no pun intended) will be found and used by even the most supposedly pious people.

I could have told you that, and you wouldn't have even had to read the article
. This is the reason that I don't use purity pledges or "purity rings" (a term that I find rather hysterical--sounds like something you buy from an online porn site) in any of my teaching. We talk extensively about sex, dating, relationships...and I even teach abstinence to my students. But I'm also smart enough to recognize that they are human, and that the guilt over breaking such a pledge could be worse than if they don't make a pledge at all.

That's a very salient point that many simply ignore. Why must pleasure be paired with measures of guilt? It seems doubtful but perhaps one day the human race will move beyond that.

In other news, water remains wet; the Bengals still suck; etc., etc.

Youth Ministry is a far cry from what it needs to be. For all the fancy bands and music, dynamic speakers, big youth conferences, etc., it really hasn't changed much. It's still a "game" of trying to get teens to be morally pure.
My problem with this is that the Gospel is supposed to be dynamic, challenging, sometimes even frustrating. Churches are trying to make it about following a moral "straight line," and if you fall off that line then you're a degenerate. That's just not being true to the Christ that we see in scripture.
I teach abstinence because I see the damage that sexual relationships causes in teens and in premarital counseling. Not saying it's always like that, but kids are usually way to young--emotionally and spiritually--to be doing a lot of the stuff they are doing. It creates a lot of confusion, and even some problems later in life. I've even seen it lead to issues in marriage.
However, a lot of times kids don't intend to get involved in a sexual relationship. Like most of us, they get caught up in the heat of the moment. It's often a mistake, but we can be forgiven for our mistakes. Why add another layer to the confusion and guilt they already have?

Hmmmm...I might pick one of those up myself!
Of course, after the anniversary incident and the jersey, that might be pushing it. Three strikes and I'm out!

Not that she's a complete root, but it's hard to believe she's been offered $5 million.

"I think me and the person I do it with will both profit greatly from the deal."
Damn, that's arrogant considering she's a rookie...
A student who is auctioning her virginity to pay for a masters degree in Family and Marriage therapy
No irony here or anything. Prostitution is doing wonders for marriage and families.
For that kind of cash, it would require way more than a one night stand. At least a month, anything goes, including whatever otis can come up with.
Still wouldn't be "worth it," but gotta think of something. One time? I think the offer's bogus.

No it's real. A Nigerian made the offer, she just has to send him the money for the taxes on the cash, and it is hers.

Do I remember correctly a comment being made about Otis having a vast porno collection?
All that porn viewing is finally paying dividends. :madscientistcackle:

I would have bet on one of those billionaire Arab oil guys. Infinite cash + I think virginity's still a big deal there.

I would need the USDA to confirm that virginity first though.
