I just didn't have the heart to read all of this due to it making my soul hurt, but I have to ask.
What the hell do you teach? Philosophy? Literature? I really can't figure it out, but whatever it is, if you ever get the chance, tell your students at the beginning of the quarter that they're what's wrong with this world.
Nevermind: I think I figured it out, sorta. I am still appalled at how terrible the writing style and gammar of some of those answers were. I was a biochem major and my teachers would have cockpunched me for writing shit like that on their exams.

You know, it's funny, I always thought "it is what it is" was coined by Parcells and was just meaningless coach-speak. Until I found the same formulation (connected to the idea of "necessity", a major trope in Greek thought) in Sophocles, and astonishingly, 3 times in Euripides'
Medea

"In the madcap comedy
It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World
, few people realize that Shecky Greene portrayed a potted plant, a soda machine, and also a turnip. Yet without the potted plant, the soda machine, and the turnip we would fail to find comic agitation."
