Penguins call up left winger for tonight's game
Tuesday, January 13, 2009
By Dave Molinari, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

PHILADELPHIA -- The Penguins re-called left winger Paul Bissonnette from their farm team in Wilkes-Barre today.

He is expected to be in the lineup when the Penguins face Philadelphia tonight at 7:08 at the Wachovia Center.

Left winger Pascal Dupuis, who has been injured since last week, did not accompany the team here.

More details in tomorrow's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

We need a win desperately but with the next 4 opponents (Philly, Wash, Anaheim and the Rags), I can't be too optimistic.

And this is what was given to Therrien to play around with tonight.  A winger who hasn't played on a first line in five years and an unproven AHL winger to plug on his second line.  Then people wonder why this team looks like shit every night....

Cooke promoted to Penguins top line
Tuesday, January 13, 2009
By Dave Molinari, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

PHILADELPHIA -- Penguins left winger Matt Cooke will make his first appearance on a No. 1 line in nearly five years tonight.

Cooke is scheduled to play alongside Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin when the Penguins face Philadelphia at 7:08 at the Wachovia Center. The last time Cooke filled such a role was late in the 2003-04 season, when he worked with Markus Naslund and Brendan Morrison on Vancouver's top line after Todd Bertuzzi was suspended.

Also tonight, Chris Minard, one of the top scorers in the American Hockey League, will get his first opportunity to fill an offense-oriented role for the Penguins, as he joins with Jordan Staal and Petr Sykora on the No. 2 line.

The other lines the Penguins used at their game-day skate were Miroslav Satan-Max Talbot-Tyler Kennedy and Paul Bissonnette-Dustin Jeffrey-Eric Godard.

It's going to be a battle tonight, you might as well attempt to win in the TKO department. While we are at it, we should bench Satan and call up Aaron Boogaard. We have brought up every other damn player from WBS, why not bring him up for this game? At least there will be some heart and commitment shown.....

The fourth line: Boogaard - Bissonnette - Godard

While all three are considered RW's, we are not expecting these guys to put on a dazzling display of prolific scoring and it's not like Satan has done a damn thing since his arrival, what's there to lose?

Any night we can beat Filthadelphia, I'm game.  It doesn't mean we are going to make a push come playoff time (if we even make the playoffs), but it's a nice win.  The whole team showed up tonight.  Even Satan showed a pulse.  Not enough to convince me that he's nothing more than a bum looking for a paycheck, but he showed a pulse.

Good win.  Let's see what we do against the caps.

The answer, the exact same damn thing we have been doing for the last month and a half.....losing.  6-3 Caps win.
