Honestly, I'm wondering if this run with their defense may FINALLY be over???

List of FA:

Ray Lewis
Bart Scott
Terrell Suggs

Stover and Brown (starting C) are also unrestricted.  I don't see how they can afford to keep all of those guys.  Personally, I hope Ray Lewis leaves, just because I'm sick of having to see his ugly mug twice a year (or more).

Let's hope so. Also Ryan took the job with the Jets, and Kolkonis (director of player personal) may be on the outs.

Got to figure Ray Ray will be back, and maybe one of the other two guys.

Nice to see them with some tough decisions to make, and with their D having another year of age on them....we all know how that can add up. A guy who was a stud the year before can quickly become washed up by the time the next season rolls around.

Cowboys interested in Ravens' Lewis?

Word around the NFL is that the Dallas Cowboys are very interested in obtaining Ravens inside linebacker Ray Lewis if he becomes a free agent. The speculation is that the Cowboys are willing to give Lewis a three-year deal worth between $27 and $30 million, with $25 million guaranteed.

Dallas owner Jerry Jones believes his team is in the serious hunt for a Super Bowl title next season, and that Lewis could help solve some of the team's problems inside the locker room.

The Ravens are expected to begin negotiations with Lewis, who is in the last year of his contract, as soon as the season is over. Fellow linebackers Bart Scott and Terrell Suggs are also in the final years of their contracts.

Suggs' decision to play against the Steelers was a courageous one. Oh, and by the way, he happened to come up with two big sacks.

Will anyone hate me if I say I secretly want ray lewis in the black and gold? I'd almost guarantee barring injury we'd win it all next year with a defense like that.

Yes.

Fuck Ray Ray. I don't want his murdering ass anywhere near the Steelers locker room. If not Baltimore, Dallas is the perfect location for that thug. Our defense is great and was ranked #1 without the almighty Ray Ray, and will continue to be great with Farrior, Timmons, and Foote rotating in the middle.

We can win it all this year with the defense we have right now, why would that change next year?  Bringing Ray Lewis to Pittsburgh would be a waste of money.  We have other areas where that money should be going towards after this season is over, like the o-line for starters.

Nevermind that the fact that in all right the guy should be doing 10-20 in a Maryland state penitentiary.  Ray Lewis is one of the last players in this league who I would want to see dawning the Black and Gold.  It would make my stomach turn knowing that my money is going toward that guy's paycheck.

No way, no how.  Not worth it.  This ain't the Cowboys.  Jerry's been "one piece away" for years, with no playoff wins to show for it.  Let him blow his money on RayRay.

Up next, call up Pacman Jones and see if Chris Henry has any interest in being a Steeler.  clap

The homicide rate in Pittsburgh would skyrocket.

Leonhard is also a free agent so there are four starters and the D- Coordinator.

I won't say that they won't be great again (mainly because that thought would make me giddy and I still have to work today) but it will be tougher on the D side while the O should be improving.

I think their defense will slip a bit.

I think they will re-sign Suggs because he's an elite pass rusher, and they will go to great lengths to re-sign Lewis because of PR. They'll let Scott walk.

Losing Ryan will hurt, but they'll still have Reed in pass coverage and Ngata, who's a friggin' beast, for run stopping.

No offense to OhioU, but I think Ray Lewis would be an absolute horrible fit in Pittsburgh.  His self-promotion, his attitude, his arrogance...that just isn't going to fit in this locker room.  He's not going to go up to Ben or the coach or anyone else and start telling them what to do like he does in Baltimore.

The more I think about it, the more it occurs to me that the Cowboys are the perfect fit.  Or, perhaps he'll follow Rexy to NY???  Oh, I can only imagine the media machine that would produce.  Ray Lewis on the big board in Time Square...

I think Bart Scott is a hard hitter, but more mouth than anything.  Ed Reed is great, but as we showed Sun. night, he can be neutralized.  I like Leohnard a lot, and would have no problem seeing that guy in black and gold.  Works hard, plays tough, overachiever.  Sounds like a Stiller to me!!!  B)

I don't like Suggs or any of the "Thug Life" attitude the Ravens' bring.  But, Suggs is a great player, and I really respect what the guy did Sun. night on the field.

No offense to you Ray Ray haters (It is deserved) but he is nothing like a PAC-man. he is a good locker room presence and that is one of the reasons we played them in the AFCG @ home and not vs. Tenn. in Tenn. I'm just saying, i don't ever see us getting him but how could you not want him? Best middle linebacker in the NFL and would give a good locker room presence with a peazy attitude. just saying. but i hope he goes to the cowboys. because if he isn't with us and he has to be in the NFL send him to the NFC.

luckily we have the best D already

The man was part of a murder. He should be serving many years behind bars. Pac Man maybe an ass, but he is paying for it. Ray Ray for some reason gets to walk and a free pass. I call bullshit. I don't want him anywhere near the Steelers locker room.

I'm thinking it would be a chemistry nightmare.  There's nothing broken in the locker room, the guys don't need what Ray Ray is bringing.  You think Smith, Hampton, Harrison, Farrior, Polamalu, et al give two shits for what Ray has to say?  No fucking way man.

Let him go to Dallas and deal with TO and Jessica and Coach Doughnut.

Other than the personal reasons, its just not a good business decision to sign Ray Ray. The guy probably has 1 or 2 more years playing at a high level. After that, you will need him to re-structure, or you cut him. Either way , he won't be worth the 20-25 mil guaranteed you just gave him to play for 2 years. For a mack LB, I will take Potsie.

Frankly, Farrior has better numbers all around. This year he had 133 tackles, 87 solo, and 3.5 sacks. He turned 34 on Jan. 6th. Ray had 117 tackles, 85 solo, and 3.5 sacks. They had the same number of TLoss, 5. Ray had 1 more FF, and he had 3 INT's. So other than INT's, Farrior was better, or equal to Lewis who turns 34 in May.

It really becomes a no brainer when you consider contracts. Potsie just signed a 5 year, 18.25 mil extension that is heavily front loaded. He got a 5 mil signing bonus, and will get 10 mil over the 1st 2 years, 12.6 mil over the 1st 3. So why pay twice as much to get the same performance from a mack LB?

One more thing............ Fuck you Ray Ray.

We have the best defense in football. You don't fuck with that. I don't care if we could get him for the veteran's minimum, wouldn't take him. The only position that I could see us looking for an upgrade on is DB.

I don't mean to defend Ray Lewis because it has always bothered me that he got a free pass for what he did because he won a Super Bowl.  But he did at least admit that he did SOMETHING wrong, and I'm not sure that I've ever heard of TO doing that.  About anything.

I'll add something else that bothered me about Ray Lewis.  They said on Sun. that he refuses to wear his Super Bowl ring until he wins another one, and held that up as some great motivational technique.  Personally, that seems pretty dumb and borders on insulting.  He's essentially saying that win was worthless unless he gets a second one.

I much prefer the Steelers' approach, in which the LBs all flashed their rings in front of the guys who didn't have one, as a way to motivate them.

IMO, if Pittsburgh's going to go out and get a FA LB (with their other pressing needs at OL, DL and arguably WR, I don't see why they would, but...), I'd much, much, much rather have Peterson from Jacksonville.  He's younger, faster and a beast in the middle.  And, he'd be much cheaper too.

Although, after thinking about it for a few, I guess I could see where it might be something they will look into.  I really like what Timmons brings to the team on obvious passing downs (I'll admit that I was wrong about him being a complete bust), particularly out of the nickel package where his speed can really be put to good use both getting after the QB and dropping back in coverage,  but I'm still not convinced that he'd be able to hack it in the middle as an every down LB.  He's not as stout against the run as I'd expect a ILB to be in Pittsburgh's system.  And, I also don't think he's very good at absorbing/shedding blockers to get to the ball carrier.  If the opposing team gets a hat on him, he's usually neutralized.

So, maybe a guy like Peterson would be a nice fit.  I can't recall the specifics of Foote's deal and when it's up, but if it's this year, a FA move here may be a consideration.

As to Lewis, well simply put, I would not want him on my team.  EOS.
