Atlanta Thrashers' prospect Angelo Esposito suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee on Wednesday, an injury that has ended his season.
Esposito was playing for his junior team, the Montreal Junior when he was injured in a game against the Victoriaville Tigres.
Esposito, who won a gold medal with Canada's world junior team earlier this year, will be re-evaluated next week and likely undergo surgery to repair the ligament.
The team doctor expects Esposito to recover in time for Thrashers' training camp next fall.
In 35 games this season, the Montreal native scored 24 goals and added 18 assists for 42 points.
If there was any question as to whether this kid would ever play in the NHL, I think the argument is over now. He just doesn't have the heart or the desire to come back from an injury like this. I'll be real surprised if he ever puts on an NHL uniform.
