Well, if we were to trade him, we could get a ton in return. Plus, Bruce Davis is more than capable to step in and pick up where Harrison has left off...

I'm just playin...He'll be extended.
I was just reading James Walker's blog on espn.com about what may happen to teams in the AFC North as far as free agency goes. This quote stood out to me...
"Veterans like tight end Heath Miller, receiver Hines Ward, safety Ryan Clark and defensive player of the year James Harrison all have expiring deals at the end of next season.
The Steelers usually allow their players to fulfill their contracts before re-negotiating
, but they will probably make a few exceptions this offseason."
If I recall correctly, don't we always address key players with one year remaining on their contracts?? With the exception of quarterback I believe.
I like James Walker for the most part. He seems like he is as non-biased as possible, especially being from Baltimore or Cleveland or whatever hell hole he is from. But that doesn't sound correct....

I saw that too and almost replied to the blog post but there were so many Baltimorons and Brownstains posting, why bother? But you're correct, they usually extend players with a year remaining. So he was wrong. But you're right on with the assessment of Walker - I've enjoyed reading him over the past month or so. Never heard of him before that.

Cool.
Hopefully they don't overcompensate for him being a "bargain" in '08 and overpay him in this new deal. I'd like to get a few good more years out of 'em before he gets all Gildon~ized on them.
As to the rest of the key '10 FAs:
Give Clark and Miller new deals.
Let Hamp play out his final year.
Restructure and extend Ward.

Considering that Hamp's replacement isn't even here yet don't you have to do at least a couple more years with him?
The words defensive, precipitous and drop-off come to mind.

If you can't find someone in the '09 draft, tag Hamp in '10.

That potentially works. What about the whole NFLPA contract issue and the potential uncapped year? Will the tag even exist at that point?

Good question, jonzr...
There are some guys in this draft who can play the nose in the 3-4. Raji's going to be long gone, but the DT who played beside him at BC, Ron Brace, looks like a guy who can play. Then there's a slew of big school 4-3 DT/UTs, and then some value guys from small schools: Sammie Lee Hill from Stillman, and Terence Knighton from Temple. I'd love to have Brace, but I'm not sure that we'd get him unless we used our R1 pick on him. Hill and Knighton might be worth a shot, though... For some reason, Hill has me interested.

Isn't it pretty much Steeler policy not to extend or restructure a player after the season starts? Maybe that's what he actually had in mind when writing the article.
