Satan a no-show

Winger Miroslav Satan, assigned to the Penguins' minor league team in Wilkes-Barre last week, still has not reported to the Baby Penguins, but the situation could come to a head as early as today.

If Satan, who was sent to Wilkes-Barre to clear salary-cap space after the Penguins acquired right winger Bill Guerin from the New York Islanders Wednesday, does not go to the minors, he can be suspended, which would free the Penguins of their obligation to honor the balance of his $3.5 million contract.

The Penguins have the option of continuing to pay Satan's salary without compelling him to go to Wilkes-Barre, although there has been no indication they plan to do so.

He hasn't reported for the last five months, so I guess this isn't exactly shocking news?

Rossi attempting to give the city of Pittsburgh a heart attack with his misleading title...

Satan, Penguins working on new deal
Buzz up!By Rob Rossi, TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Wednesday, March 11, 2009

The Penguins are close to reaching an agreement with winger Miroslav Satan regarding his future with the organization.

An announcement could come today.

Satan, assigned March 4 to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for salary-cap reasons, has not been asked to report nor has he reported. He has been in New York as his representatives and Penguins general manager Ray Shero attempt to work out details regarding Satan's status.

He signed a one-year contract worth $3.5 million in July, but the Penguins can't fit his salary under the NHL's $56.7 million cap because of recent acquisitions (wingers Chris Kunitz, Bill Guerin and Craig Adams) and the potential for defenseman Philippe Boucher's return from the long-term injured reserve list.

Satan added to Baby Penguins' playoff roster
Thursday, March 12, 2009
By Dave Molinari, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Winger Miroslav Satan almost certainly will participate in the playoffs this spring.

The question is, in which league?

Satan, who was assigned to the Penguins' American Hockey League affiliate in Wilkes-Barre last week, is scheduled to participate in a practice with the Baby Penguins for the first time today.

Penguins General Manager Ray Shero said this morning that Satan will be placed on Wilkes-Barre's 22-man Clear Day playoff roster, but he also could rejoin the Penguins for the NHL playoffs if they qualify.

Shero said he has given Satan no guarantees that he will be brought back, however.

Satan was assigned to Wilkes-Barre last week to open the salary-cap space needed to accommodate the $4.5 million contract of winger Bill Guerin, who was acquired from the New York Islanders a week ago.

Satan makes the most of his new gig. 1 goal and 3 assists in his first game with Wilkes-Barre Scranton. He's finally found his niche.

At least he can help them in the playoffs.  Unfortunately, that is one expensive AHL player.
