Titans cornerback to visit Steelers tomorrow
Tuesday, March 10, 2009
By Gerry Dulac, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Tennessee Titans cornerback Chris Carr, who is one of the top return specialists in the American Football Conference, will visit with the Steelers tomorrow -- the second unrestricted free agent to interview on the South Side this week.

Carr was a backup with the Titans last season after spending the previous three seasons with the Oakland Raiders. He finished third in kick returns (28.1-yard avg.) and eighth in punt returns (10.1 avg.) in the AFC last season.

The Steelers are looking for an extra cornerback after losing Bryant McFadden to the Arizona Cardinals in free agency. Carr has also visited with the Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions and has not ruled out returning to the Titans.

Cool, return specialist and CB all in one shot.

Interesting pickup for depth if they can sing him.

Don't know anything about this guy's ability at CB.  I worry about the assumption that he will excell as a KR, though. Seems to me that usually guys are most effective the first 4 years in the league, then are generally less effective in the return game.

Still, he'd be a vast improvement over Russell. Probably less so for B Mac.

Regarding the return game, I'm hoping that we can actually use Mewelde Moore in that capacity this year.  Obviously, the way the RB situation played out last year, we couldn't really risk an injury to him, but the guy can certainly handle that job.

Adding Carr wouldn't be bad, I guess, but he's going to have to be able to play DB in order to really help us.

If they make a FA CB singing, it'll be interesting to see what the difference will be from what BM got from the Cards.

Different set of skills. He'd be out there as a last option in nickle and dime coverage. B-Mac was the 2nd option. A #2 corner commands at least twice as much as a return man IMO. So, if they sign him, it better not be for more than 1-2 mil a year.

They have lost 3 CBs this offseason.

Man, we're gonna need one helluva draft.  Anyone confident in our depth at Oline, Dline, WR, CB?
