Been hearing that they're in negotiations with whoever the 1.1 pick will be, and now kffl reports:

Lions | To take J. Smith with first pick?

KFFL has learned the Detroit Lions will take Baylor OT Jason Smith with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.

Some thoughts:  smarter move than taking Stafford.  Draft the best LT, then sign a guy likfe Leftwich, for example.

Is Smith better than Monroe?  Smith is widely seen as a better upside guy, but me personally, I would take Monroe due to the LOC and system Smith played in.  Both look very good, though.

Could signal a domino effect of QBs sliding in R1.

Yeah, I agree.  Much lower bust rate for LTs than QBs.  And when you consider the $$$ the #1 overall pick will demand, it'll be a bit cheaper to sign the LT than a QB, I don't care what harry says.

Boy, I sure hope a QB falls to us in round one.  I am so sick of the game manager.

Could signal a domino effect of QBs sliding in R1.

Or, of OTs (OL, generally) rising.

*sigh*

It makes sense though.
