Maybe I'm an idiot but I don't really understand how the comp picks work and how they're awarded. Can somebody explain it to my dumbass?

This is absolute bullshit. The Pats get three....THREE...frig gin' picks, including the highest of the 3rd rounders?!?
Ok, I could see them pick first in the 3rd round, as they lost 1 definitive starter, and 1 kind of starter, at corner.  Donte Stallworth I can barely count, since he wasn't even a homegrown product.

We lost arguably the best (at least top 5) OG in the league and an OLB -- both starters -- and we get only one pick..in the f'n FIFTH?!?

I could see us getting a three only, and the pat's a 3rd and maybe a 6th, or us getting a 4th (at worst) and the Pats getting only a 3rd.

Much as I hate them, I'm using the Pat's only as my benchmark since they were the most heavily rewarded. Based on the Stallworth situation for the Pats, we better get rewarded when/if Lefty gets signed elsewhere, especially since we've brought in no new FA this season.

Hartwig shouldn't have counted against us.  Fox didnt' play enough to hurt us.  Was Moore cut by the Vikes or was he a FA after last season?

Strange stuff...if you can't get a 3rd for a guy like Faneca and the amount of money he got, what does it take?

You have to be touched by the hands of the football gods, like the Flaming Beardies of NE.

I knew getting an extra 3rd rounder was to good to be true. Still, that should have been a 4th minimum. Mewelde Moore was pretty damn valuable this year, but he didn't rush for 1500 yards or get a 8 mil per year contract.

And a third round pick for Stallworth is a freaking joke. I heard he pulled a hammy signing that contract with the Browns.

I guess Faneca does suck.

And people wonder why the actual compensatory pick calculation is treasured like a KFC recipe.  It's so much easier to throw picks around after the fact like it's Easter candy when nobody knows WTF is going on.

Here is an idea.  You loose a player you get the teams pick that the player was drafted at of the team that signs him.  If he is an UDRFA It's 2 7th rnd picks at the end of the draft.  If he is a FA signing (Stallworth) you get nothing.
