Anyone heard of
these guys? Found out about them via "Fresh Air" a few months ago and picked up their recent release,
For All I Care. It's interesting music, to say the least. From what I gather, their prior stuff has been instrumental (they're a 3-piece: piano, bass, drums) but their new album features a female vocalists on some tracks.
They're mainly a jazz unit, but this album features covers of many songs from Pink Floyd and Nirvana to the Bee Gees, from some old jazz standards I never heard of to Igor Stravinsky. The interesting thing is they don't do any of these songs straight-up. They keep key elements, you can recognize it, but they certainly put their own twist on 'em.
There are songs that require a little effort from the listener, but it's worth it IMO. Then there are some which are beautiful, particularly, the Bee Gees classic,
How Deep Is Your Love? and Floyd's
Comfortably Numb.
