Philadelphia Flyers tough guy Daniel Carcillo has a hearing with the NHL scheduled for 3pm et/Noon pt this afternoon.

The incident under review took place during the Flyers playoff series opener with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday night. The Penguins won the contest 4-1.

While there is no penalty noted on the game sheet, it is believed the incident under review involved Penguins' Maime Talbot.

Prior to the start of the playoffs, the NHL told all coaches and general managers there was to be "no message sending" late in games where the score had been decided. Carcillo's presence on the ice at that stage of the contest combined the contact with Talbot could be considered "message sending."

Carcillo was suspended for two games while still a member of the Phoenix Coyotes in mid-October for throwing punches from the bench at Chicago Blackhawks' Ben Eager.

The Flyers acquired Carcillo from the Coyotes for Scottie Upshall and a 2nd round selection in 2011 at the NHL's trade deadline.

The 24-year-old had three goals with eleven assists and 254 PIM over his 74 games split between the Flyers and Coyotes this past season.

Carcillo was a headcase when he was with the Pittsburgh organization (traded him for Laraque) and he continues to be a headcase.  Great fit for Philly's style of play.

There's a difference between physical play and goonism. The Pens set the tone with legal hits between the whistles and the Cryers retaliated with cheap shots after the whistle. As long as they keep doing that and the Pens keep their cool, we'll win this series easily. As much as I detest Hartnell, I love the way he consistently kills his team. As long as he doesn't seriously hurt anyone, that is.

And we did it in a clean manner, unlike the Flyers.  Once that team is down three goals, they get stupid and they get dirty. 

One example is Scott Hartnell.  He hurt his team more than he helped them last night.  I counted three absolutely stupid penalties taken on his part last night.  Cooke baited him with one call and then he blatantly interfered with Fleury.  Both of those penalties occured in the first period while the score was only 1-0.  He then went on to trip Letang in the third and then received a 10 minute misconduct penalty at the end of the third.

As a Penguins fan, I hope Hartnell continues to play dumb hockey.  It only helps us in the long run.  Considering he only has one or two goals against us this season, I would rather see the team worry about Richards, Gagne, Briere and Carter.  Let Hartnell play like a bum and then catch him when he has his head down or pay him a visit when we have a significant lead.

Eitherway, if we take game two, I expect we will see Godard in the lineup for game three and depending on what happens with Carcillo and his hearing, I'm sure we will see Cote at some point.  Bring on Biron...

The NHL handed Philadelphia Flyers tough guy Daniel Carcillo a one-game suspension for his role in an incident in the waning moments of Game 1 of the Flyers first round playoff series with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Carcillo appeared to deliver a butt-end to the face of Pens' forward Maxime Talbot as time expired in Pittsburgh's 4-1 victory in the series opener.  No penalty was given at the time of the incident, however the league reviewed the play and held a hearing with Carcillo earlier Thursday afternoon.

Not only did Carcillo get suspended, Cryers head coach was fined $10 grand for sending Carcillo out to take the face-off in the first place. Carcillo had taken only 2 face-offs in his entire career.
