ESPN is reporting that Ward signed a 4 year extension.  Anyone know the details?

4 years 22 million according to espn. I'm fine with this as I expect Ward to make the transition to excellent number 2 to excellent slot guy over the next few years. Plus it ensures he retires a Steeler.

I'm good with it.  If he's got two good years and one decent one left in him, then it's worth it figuring year 4 is probably a third of the total contract (don't know, just a complete guess), which he likely won't get.  Even if we don't quite get our "money's worth," he's more than earned the difference.

Think he's got 200 catches left to get to 1000?  That would be a hair over 4 a game over 3 healthy years.

750 yards per season X 3 would have him flirting with 12000.  That would take the 200 grabs at just over 11 yards per.

He'll be close on both barring injury, but I think he comes up a little short of those numbers, especially if Sweed steps up in the next year or two.

Great news, Ward has long been among my faves.  And to think I was worried before his last extension about him staying healthy for the long term b/c of his physical style of play.

GREAT!  Should free cap space for this year... they can spread out the bonus (hopefully converting 09 salary).

Maybe it's just me, but with the physical pounding he has taken over his career, and his injury list starting to mount, I'd be surprised if we get 40 games out of him over the length of that contract.

Hines started 16 games in 2008, perhaps the most brutal physical test he's faced yet.  He started every playoff game, and was only injured in a freak twist of his knee making a great play.  And he STILL played in the SB.

2008 - 16 games
2007 - 13 games
2006 - 14 games
2005 - 15 games
2004 - 16 games

40 games over the course of the contract?  I'll take the over.  Even if we just get 40 games, I'm satisfied with that.

Wasn't this a popular sentiment when Ward signed his last extension?

I'm not worried about him missing significant time.
