I struggled with where to post this, but ultimately, it's not a Steelers post, it's a personal post.

This week has SUCKED.
Yesterday I found out that a guy I used to date dropped dead of a heart attack.  He was 39.
OK, I didn't really date him.  But we hooked up over the weekend of my sister's wedding.  He was one of my BIL's best friends.  And for a few weeks, I thought we might have a chance.  Turns out we didn't, but it still hit fairly close to home.  The guy was a triathlete, with no history of heart problems, so it was completely out of the blue.

Also on Tuesday, I found out that one of the great stallions in Thoroughbred racing had to be euthanized.  I was fairly close to him because I worked for the farm for several years and was very close to the family.  He was a family member to them, and a bit of an icon in racing circles.  He was 25, so not totally unexpected, but devastating nonetheless.  It's a little like the end of an era where TB stallions are concerned.

Today my father went to the hospital with all the symptoms of a heart attack.  They are still not sure that is what happened, but he's staying overnight and they might still send him in to Louisville tomorrow for a cardiac cath.  He's tough, but it still scares the shit out of me.

Tomorrow will likely be Grendel's last day on earth.  Grendel is my sister's great dog, who found her at the pound 14 years ago when we were looking for a lost Jack Russell of mine.  He is simply the best dog ever.  He disappeared right after Thanksgiving a few years ago and we thought we'd lost him forever then.  Miraculously, he came back 2 months later, much skinnier and dirtier than when he'd left. I believe that he came back because he couldn't bear to be away from Alyson.  It's going to be much tougher to lose him a second time.

So.

The Steelers don't owe me a damn thing, but if they crush the Titans tomorrow night, it will sure help make my week a little better.

Cherish everyone and everything in your life.  You never know when they will leave.

I truly do love you guys and gals on this board.

But other than that...things are going pretty well?  Smiley

Yes, the great escape we know as Steelers football. Where life and death is converting a 3rd down or coming up with a big stop.

In honor of this post, I've started to write a country song for you.

Since you left,
I've hit the bottle.
I still have treeness,
For your twaddle.

Tough week indeed, girl. It's been a tough summer on my end, nice to know there are people here that even though you've never met them, they still do care about you.
Here's to the Stillers rocking it our for you tonight!

Keep us updated on your father, LC.  Hope all is well with him, and sorry to hear about the tragic news.  39 is way too young.

LC - I hope your father is OK.  Keep us posted.

I don't understand heart attacks that happen to people that are extremely fit like that.  Sorry to hear the bad news.

I can truly empathize with you over Grendel.  The previous dog we had, a big Newfoundland named Virgil, we treated like a child, along with the other Newfie we had at the same time.  Virgil lived longer than the other Newf and we got him through what we knew would be his last summer of camping with us before we had to put him down.  I made an appointment a week before, and it was the longest and most miserable week of my life.  When that time comes, it stinks, but it really is best for everyone.

Hang in there LC, and enjoy the game!!!!

Thanks all.  Dad is now home and resting in preparation for his trip to his alma mater on Friday for their big football game and his seats in the Presidents box...

Drama queen....

Seriously though, the Doc thinks it was a very mild heart attack, based on the bloodwork.  Thinks he's fine, but is sending him to another specialist to see if his medication needs adjusting, or whatever.  Bullet dodged.

The big dog has passed.  The vet actually came to the house to do it, which was awesome of her.  The sis seems to be handling it pretty well, but I'm sure the tears were there at the time, and will come back.

BV, you are so right.  I've unfortunately had to make the call a couple of times myself, but she has had the good fortune of not having to do so until now.

Thanks again, everybody, for your support and good words.  It really is like family around here.
Except when y'all start up with your Klan activities....

 Tongue

HERE WE GO STEELERS!!!  Can't wait for tonite!!!

I might be responsible for Troy's injury.
I was supposed to seriously curtail my drinking after the SB win.
And I didn't.

Shit.  I'm so sorry you guys.
