Good news IMO.  I'm very curious about the value of the deal.  Letang has been one of the best players on the ice of late.

Per TSN...

Quote
The defending Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins have locked up another player for the long term.

On Tuesday, the club announced that defenceman Kris Letang has signed a four-year contract extension that will pay him $3.5 million per season.

The 22-year-old has recorded three goals and 24 assists in 67 games this season.  His 21:30 minutes of ice time per game ranks as second among the club's blueliners.

Letang was drafted by the Penguins in the third round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.  He was a key member of the Penguins' run to the Stanley Cup in 2009, recording four goals and nine assists in the playoffs.

In 221 career regular season games, Letang has 21 goals and 58 assists.

It's a good deal, I'm fine with anything under 4 million. Nice to have alot of these guys locked up for the next few years.

I think they extend Leopold as well. Gonchar is apparently asking for the moon and his game has been slipping this season. Still one of the best power-play specialists in the league but he will be 36 and you just can't keep everyone.

Agreed. There is still the business aspect to consider. Although we all love Gonch, and appreciate his services, it's time for him to move on. Look for a team like Washington or Montreal to snag him this offseason.
