I have never, ever been close to being the kind of Steelers fan who says "I'm done with this team if...." I have had contempt for such fans in the past. But I'll say this now- if the Steelers trade Ben, I'm done with this team. I think the Leftwich acquisition is ominous, unless they have reason to believe that the Commish is going to suspend Ben for 6 or more games.

C'mon mang...ya gots to stay with the B&G.

Roger's a hard ass. Ben would have gotten 2 games just for friendly, no accusation sex in a public bathroom. So I figure he's probably getting 4, due to the ugly accusations...whether they are completely true or not.

I don't think they'll trade him, but you need to try and win some games while Ben is out. Batch will get hurt and Dixon is still pretty raw. Sounds like there might not be any football next season, so you can't just play out the string and hope to regroup in 3 years.

But if they do trade him...are they any other black QBs we can draft?  Grin

I am on the fence about trading Ben or not. I will be ok either way. My personal opinion is if he isn't traded, he needs to sit for the year. I like the Lefty acquisition, thought he should have stuck around when he SINGED with Tampa. No player is worth more than the Steelers as a whole to me, and I love Ben as a player. Just a tough situation that could have easily been avoided.

I agree Vinman, but they have to get value for him too. Anything less than 2 first rounders (and I'd try to get a QB for now too) is not enough. And I'd want those first rounders to be near the top of the draft this year and probable high picks next year too (so trade to a bad team).

Honestly guys (and gals),
what were they going to do with that 7th rounder that would be better than adding veteran depth and competition at a position we are going to be a man down at for at least 2 games (at a minimum.)  I cannot see the Lefty trade signaling something bigger.  I think it creates competition for the two spots at the beginning and provides insurance for the inevitable Batch injury.

The Rooney's (and their high moral character) would lose a lot of face after coming out and saying that they are moving forward with Ben and then reversing course.  They could say they got the proverbial irresistible offer but that is what it would take.

That is actually the only scenario I would accept a Ben trade. No dumping Ben like they did Santonio. Get value.

Think this through.  He was not charged or convicted of anything.  How do you condemn a man innocent of a crime, but guilty of poor judgement.  Trading Ben would be a HUGE mistake.  Are you really wishing mediocrity for our team?  There are way too many inconsistencies in the police reports to say Ben did anything that would put him in prison.

When would it end?

According to the Associated press Steeler great Hines Ward has been released because he did not put a dollar in the Salvation Army red kettle.

Bell Ringer- "He just walked by and said he did not have any cash, that is not a guy I want playing for my Steelers"
Hines - "I really did not have any cash on me, I donate thousands a year to numerous charities, but now I am released, are you joking"

The trade for Lefty is fine with me in terms of having someone in place to play well while Ben is out. I like Dixon, but I don't think we'd win a lot of games with him, frankly. And I've lost confidence in Batch's ability.

If that's the thinking, I'm cool with that.

Ben did something sleazy. He may even be a total d-bag. If a team of sociologists studied the dating and mating habits of pro football players, talked to ex-girlfriends, talked to the one-night-stands, I am pretty damn sure you would see a picture emerge that is not very flattering.

Let's expand the context beyond sports to get some perspective: Picasso was not nice to hundreds of women he slept with. William Burroughs shot his first wife dead "playing William Tell." Van Gogh whored with abandon. Norman Mailer stabbed his second wife. This list could go on and on, but the point is, we separate the person from the performer all the time. The rest is up to Johnny Law.

Incidentally, what the fuck was with the DA? If the state can't prosecute, the DA has no business giving a speech about what a cretin the accused is, revealing details of the accusation, and basically smearing someone not found guilty of anything in public. That's just wrong. If the state can charge me with a crime, fine; proceed. But if it can't, the state should not be allowed to drag my name through the mud in public.

I'll lay a wager Charlie Batch opens the season on IR.

And I'll say Finny has a 100+ word post, before a fortnight has passed.

From this time forth I never will speak word.

Seriously, Otis.  Why do you have to be such a dick?

Otis made me cry.

Gots no problem with shipping a 7 for Lefty.  That's basically like sending a dead possum their way for a guy who fit well here.

Besides, we have 11 10 friggin picks.
