Steelers sign guard, put Colon on injured reserve
Wednesday, July 21, 2010
By Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
The Steelers added a veteran guard and placed tackle Willie Colon on injured reserve today.

Adrian Jones, a six-year veteran who played for the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs, signed a one-year contract with the Steelers. Colon, who had surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon last month, will not play this season.

Jones stands 6-4 and weighs 330 pounds. The Jets drafted him in the fourth round in 2004 and he started 44 games for them before they waived him late in the 2007 season. He started 10 games at guard for the Chiefs in 2008 and spent time last year on Houston's practice squad before the Texans released him.

I remember Jones when he was in Kansas. I liked him.

p.s. not sure why they got a guard when they lost a tackle. I don't think he's got the feet to play RT, so the plan has to be to slide Essex and Foster out and have them battle for the RT spot. Definitely gonna be some juggling going on this camp.

Can't be right.  He'd be ineligible to be on the practice squad that late in his career.

I'm as excited about this as when we signed Barrett Brooks!

I don't think he's quite as svelte as Brooks. More like Keydrick Vincent

We need another guard as much as we a friggin' linebacker.  Or long-snapper.  Or water boy.

I could help us as much at guard.
