He is angry that they haven't even tried to sweeten this year's deal.

Good luck to Woodley in his next gig where he won't be playing opposite the NFL'S defensive player of the year. Hope Worilds can fill his shoes.

As a longtime Woodman fan, that's a bummer to hear.

I can see both sides though.  Would've been nice to see them meet somewhere in the middle on a short term deal considering all CBA issues looming.  Can't say I'm surprised to hear he's unhappy.  When you make about 1/15-1/20th what your counterpart on the same team makes, it breeds contempt.

Guess those 78 LB draft picks over the last few might not've been such a bad idea after all.

Woodley needs to get over it.  He knows he's gonna get paid after this season.  All he can hope to accomplish with the whining is that it won't be in Pittsburgh.

So, what's up with that?

I agree.

I've had some beefs with Colbert over structures of deals, signing over-the-hills (aka "Finnys"), and some draft choices, but there's no way the Woodman walks.  Not happening.

Defensive starters of proven worth:

James Farrior - 35
Aaron Smith - 34
James Harrison - 32
Casey Hampton - 32
Brett Keisel - 31
Ike Taylor - 30
Ryan Clark - 30
Larry Foote - 30
Troy Polamalu - 29
LaMarr Woodley - 25
Lawrence Timmons - 24

IMO, Bryant McFadden and William Gay are iffy and horrid as starting corners, respectively.  Polamalu, at 29, has been dinged so much that it's impossible to tell how many more years are left.  Draw a line below the guys 30 years old, and what's left?

What's the future of this defense?

With that asterisk beside Polamalu, you have Timmons and Woodley.  Timmons is OK, some good points some bad (nice speed in coverage and blitz packages, gets abused too often in run support), but Woodley has shown himself to be a monster.  Right there are the two young guys you build around, and Woodley is the one playing like a first rounder, not Timmons.

Worilds was drafted to spell, and one day succeed, Harrison -- not Woodley.  If Colbert doesn't sign Woodley to one of the teams largest contracts ever, he's a fucking idiot.  Harrison-Woodley is one of the best OLB tandems ever, and hopefully Woodley-Worilds will be the continuation of that.
