Nice TD drive to start the game, a little ground and pound.  But did I just hear that Shazam! kicked off to the 23?  I hope there's a fucking gale-force wind blowing out there.

Well, here we go.  The Steelers have absolutely dominated the game in every aspect but give up a 3rd and 10 screen that goes for a 65 yd TD.  Now it's a game at 13-7.  They're a fluke play away from losing.  Nice.

Great, now the game is tied. Losing to Buffalo isn't going to hurt our playoff chances, right?

Not with the cakewalk schedule we have coming up.

WTF is it about this team that makes them play down to the level of a shit team like the Beefalo Bums?

Going back to the Harrison hit on Fitz.  How the fuck was he supposed to hit him?  He goes low - penalty- hefty fine. He goes to the chest- penalty-hefty fine.

Pissed!!!

So....

....the Bills are one of the worst teams defending the run....

....one of the worst teams defending the pass....

....and they switched to a new defensive system, oh, during practice this week.

And we have 16 points in 4 and 1/2 quarters, as I type this. Nice job.

Alright, well, we won. We're an ugly 8-3 team, but we're 8-3. Losing this would have been devastating; that we won a squeaker shouldn't upset us too much. Notch the win and move on. These guys almost beat B-more, too.

There's not a division leader in this league that doesn't have a number of ugly wins, lucky wins, against bad teams all over their schedule. I'm not trying to make excuses, and I'm not trying to puff this team up. I think this is a playoff team, and one capable of winning one playoff game. More than that, and I'll consider this a successful year. If we can somehow wrangle the #2 seed and avoid playing New England, we can even make it to the big one, but I'm not counting on it.

Remember that we're 8-3 with the most dinged-up lines, offense and defense, in the league. If we can get some of those guys back by January, we might be much improved. Tom Brady wouldn't look so good if he had Scott at LT and Ramon Foster at G.

I'd like to point out that our lack of, say, actual points, our lack of any coherent OL play, and despite the usual late game collapse of our pass defense, NONE of this would have been an issue without the zebras giving 1&10 off YET ANOTHER utter bullshit call against 92.  Repeat offender?  More like target of the Goodell mafia.

Things to Note:

Solomon Wilcots may be my new "worst commentator" unseating Dan Dierdorf (NFL) and Mike Patrick (NCAAF).

To the Refs in Buffalo: The only part of Harrison's helmet that MAY have hit Fitzpatrick's chin was the back of the helmet.  And the back of the helmet can never be considered the "crown" of the helmet.  Bad call.  Worse fine.

Kemo, had some great blocks moving and pulling to his right and thus, I would like to see more of Kemo pulling and Adams blocking over right/downblocking on the pull.  (Also, the lack of false start penalties called on Adams this season has been a pleasant surprise).

Tons of Steelers fans in Buffalo all of whom were waiving their terrible towels and screaming when the Steeler's O was on the field.

First overtime game where having the ball first meant less than being able to choose the endzone you wanted to defend/direction you wanted to drive.

I loved when Solomon called Mike Wallace "Mike Williams" about 4 times in the span of 2 minutes, all while praising "Mike Williams" and his impact on a defense.

Sure, it was ugly and the offense kicked too many FGs instead of scoring TDs ... but ... they won road game against a scrappy team that had just won 2 in a row after being winless.  The hated Ravens must win today to keep pace and if they do,  the Steelers have their revenge shot at their place next week.

Ah, football in December.

It was an ugly win.  But as long as it goes in the W column, I really don't care.  Might want to think about how to score a few more points with those 426 yards of offense.

I am really impressed by the Bills, so much so that I might suggest Chan Gailey is a COY candidate.  Talk about getting the most that you can out of nothing.  Think the Been-gals wish they'd kept Fitzpatrick?

No.

Torry Holt.  And it's not even close.

I threw up a little bit in my mouth when I realized that we were getting the Panthers/Browns for our game today.

I blew chunks after listening to Holt for three hours.

Oh. Now I've seen the replays. In the NHL, you would have sent a third-liner into the game to do that.

Hard to say you were lucky to win a game you dominated statistically (yards, TOP, turnover diff), but that's exactly what happened.  But those advantages were neutralized by special teams yards and huge penalty differential.  Never been so happy to have a fantasy player blow a TD than when Johnson dropped the game winner.

Officiating was atrocious as noted.  Harrison call, Kemo's "hold."  How the hell does a LB on Heat run into him with his back to the ball and that's a non-call?

TP's reported demise was apparently premature.  Saved our ass today.

Concerns with pass blocking obviously, but did run for over 200.

If Andre gets suspended after they gave a free pass to Seymour (who has multiple violations), then it's the ultimate in hypocrisy.  Which makes the suspension all the more likely in the "new" NFL.

Anyone with the name "Finnegan" has to be a douche!  Wink

BTW, Bills have 20 sacks on the year.

5 came yesterday.

Our OL accounts for 25% of THEE mighty Bills' sack total, because at most one was a coverage sack.  Ben was actually doing a very good job of throwing the ball away yesterday, moreso than usual.

Yes, Christmas definitely came early for Steeler fans.  Just park that one in the back of your minds if Pittsburgh ends up finishing ahead of Balty for the division title.

Somebody send Stevie Johnson a nice "thank you" card attached to a case of Butterfingers.

Hard to say you were lucky to win a game you dominated statistically (yards, TOP, turnover diff), but that's exactly what happened.

What is it about the Steelers, that over the last ten years or so, we've had so many games like this? We dominate statistically, we "win" 2/3 of the individual plays, and yet....we barely win. Or we lose.

Don't remember this being the case so much in the 90s, but maybe I'm wrong. Is it our style of play? My guess is that it's more of a passing league, and big plays in the passing game have a disproportionate impace on the outcome of games. Plus special teams and red zone efficiency can skew the score of a game where one team dominates.

Just seems that when the other better teams of the decade -- Patriots, Colts, Eagles -- vastly outplay their opponent in a given game, the scoreboard usually reflect this.

Or when the TOP is 29:59 to 0:01 or whatever the fuck it was in the 1H.

At halftime, I mentioned to Mrs. F. that the lack of points worried me and we were in for another roller coaster ride second half.

After OT, I was nearly dead.  I had rolled off the sofa facedown and she didn't notice until the dog nudged me over.  Perils of a head on a pillow.

I was in a cab was refreshing my phone on a play by play basis during the last drive.  At one point the page said, "END OF PERIOD" and I about had a stroke thinking Tomlin screwed up the clock management or something and we ended up tied.

Had to eat my words about Sweezem though.

That's no shit.  After the game, Mrs. asked me who I thought had the best and worst performances, and among the best I had to list Squeezeham.  No doubt in my mind Skippy woulda shanked a couple of those 40+ kicks, none whatsoever.
