My take on the draft and the upcoming season. 12 teams, one big weiner.
Cap'n Chaos' Chaos Unlimited Keepers: Mendenhall, Schaub First 10: Greene, Ochocinco, Vern Davis, Mike Wallace, 49ers D, Meachem, Hightower, Palmer, Massaquoi, L'il Leon Washington Reach: 49ers D in the 5th. Chaos could have had them two rounds later, but since it's his first year in the league, we'll give the noob a pass on this one. Steal: Mike Wallace in the 6th. Every single member of the league had Wallace on their board; the Cap'n rode out the early round run on WR to snag a decent starting pair.
AJ Law's Assaholics Keepers: Gore, Grant First 10: Moss, McCoy, Carolina Steve Smith, Maclin, Gonzalez, Kolb, NYJ D, Mason Crosby, Dominique Barber, Craig Terrill Reach: Mason Crosby in the 8th. Clinton Portis was still there, amongst others. And AJ drafted Bironas in the 12th. Pre-planning for a kicker's bye week? Steal: Moss in the first? Tashard Choice in the 14th?
Scac's Hungry Whoremongers Keepers (via supplemental draft): Beardy, Steven Jackson First 10: Wayne, Wells, Clark, Sims-Walker, Bradshaw, Houshmanzadeh, Minny D, Kaeding, Lardass Webb, Chris Crocker Reach: Jackson. I just don't think he'll stand up to the wear and tear of all these awful Rams' teams. Steal: Bradshaw. If Brandon Jacobs can't go-- and he appears to be getting softer by the year-- Bradshaw will be a viable 1A rb.
Bonzr's Sideline Zombies Keepers: Pip Livers, Ronnie Brown First 10: Jon Stewart, Thomas Jones, Felix Jones, Wes Welker, Sidney Rice, Vincent Jackson, Heat Miller, Driver, Ryan, Maroney Reach: When it comes to reach, Jonzr's is the Manute Bol of drafts. Stewart, the Joneses, and Welker would all have been there later; Rice won't see the field for months and Jackson probably won't see the field at all. He did get Nate Washington in the 16th, though, and as we all know Fisher believes Nate Dub is a true #1. We all love us some Jonzr, but this could be the single worst draft in MGS FF history. Steal: Maroney, I guess. Jackson if he ever reports.
Spen's Spen's Angry Reds Keepers: Boldin, DeAngelo Williams First 10: Peehair Thomas, Eli Manning, Gates, Harvin, Reggie Bush, Fred Jackson, TO, NO D, John Carlson, Willis McGahee Reach: Boldin as a keeper. Would definitely have been there at 1.5. Steal: Todd Heap in the 12th. Provided the reports out of Rat Camp are accurate, Heap could return as a top 3 fantasy TE for dump-down Joey Flacco.
Penso's Chickens of General Gao Keepers (via supplemental draft): Ryan Mathews, Arian Foster First 10: Romo, New York Steve Smith, Witten, Jerome Harrison, Sticky Williams, Dez Bryant, THEE Steelers D, Jacoby Jones, Chris Cooley, Skippy Reed Reach: Foster would have been there possibly even into round 2; I fell victim to the hype. Also, the Smith pick was a panicked reaction to the early WR run. Steal: Mathews and Dez Bryant, who should be keepers for years to come.
Y2Joyce's Experienced Livers Keepers; Ray Rice, Geraldine Fitzgerald First 10: Calvin Johnson, Matte Forte, Hines Ward, C.J. Spiller, Brent Celek, Devin Hester, Roethlisberger, Portis, Polamalu, Royal. Reach: Fitzgerald as a keeper. He's not going to put up the numbers his talent merits until he has someone to get him the ball. Celek, because he's just not very good. Steal: Johnson. The Lions are going to have to throw the ball a ton; and Spiller, who could be Chris Johnson 2.0.
Fnngnswk's The Sportin' Woodleys Keepers: Rodgers, Peterson First 10: DeSean Jackson, Sproles, Nicks, Cribbs, Zach Miller, Donald Brown, McCluster, Eagles D, Sant Holmes, McFadden Reach: DeSean Jackson and Sproles. Finny claims his "computer" made these picks, but that's what you get for having a Mac. Better off trying to log on with your toaster. Steal: Nicks, if Smith proves to be a possession guy only.
Msdmnr's Msdmnr's Mongrels Keepers: MJD, Michael Turner First 10: Miles Austin, Colston, Jermichael Finley, Sloppy Joe Flacco, Garcon, Knox, Packers D, Garrett Hartley, Vrabel, Eric Smith Reach: None per se that I can see. Maybe Vrabel, whose numbers are subject to whimsy. Probably could have been had in later rounds. Steal: Hartley or Smith. I can't decide which since I don't know who the hell either is.
Vinman's Pure Steel(r) II Keepers: Brees, Addai First 10: Marshall, Jahvid Best, Michael Bush, Bowe, Santana Moss, Helen Winslow, Baltimaroon D, Gostkowski, Justin Miller, Will Blackmon Reach: IMO, Addai. His numbers will be poached by Brown. Maybe Marshall too, who I gather is not on the same page as Henne. Steal: Best. I think this dude's in for monster numbers, even if they come in garbage time when the Lions are down by 23 in the third quarter.
Kluisi's BenRapedMeToo Keepers: Chris Johnson, Peytonface Manning First 10: Moreno, Greg Jennings, Crabtree, Brandon Jacobs, Carnell Williams, Visanthe Shiancoe, Braylon Edwards, Lee Evans, Alex Smith, Carolina D Reach: Moreno. Yes, he's Denver's feature back, but that don't mean what it used to when Shananahan was there. Steal: Jennings. You know Finny wanted him as a tandem to Rodgers. I think he'll be good for 12 td's this year.
KC's Keystone Cops Keepers: Jamaal Charles, Andre Johnson First 10: Ced Benson, Roddy White, Marion Barber, Brett Favre, Malcom Floyd, Forsett, Jay Cutler, Owen Daniels, NYG D, Greg Olsen Reach: Charles and Benson as running back stable. A couple of big if's there. Steal: Daniels in the 8th. Gonna be as good a fantasy TE as there is. Also the pickup of Cutler is decent insurance against Favre getting a sandy vagina during the season.
