Steeler Week 1
«
on:
Sep 07, 2010 at 09:48 »
I already ready for doing absolutely nothing next Sunday except for watching Steeler and NFL football. Mrs. BV got company baseball tickets for a 1:00 game on Sunday.
Naturally, the kids want to go, and it is fun going to the game with the family, but opening Sunday of the football season?!?!
I'm trying to get out of it.

Jesus, man! Maybe you can figure it out the next time you're sitting on the hopper taking a pee.
I've already got the 8 year old saying. "Let's go to the bar and watch the game." If only he could drive.

I have to admit, we were going to head 3 hours west to see the daughter at college this weekend but I've convinced the hubby that next weekend would be much better. It IS the first game, I have to hang with my racist football buddy!

Good parents give their kids the confidence to drive early. Sure, there are "laws" with "age requirements," but I don't think a court of law in this country would convict you on that, Otis. Be a good parent and let the kid drive. Hell, if he's driving, let him have a couple of Lites, too.

BV, you need to do a better job as a parent. It will put an end to all that "baseball" talk on Kickoff Sunday!
I am taking the jersey to church. As soon as the last note is hit on the organ, changing clothes, going to the bar, watching the game, then back to church at 6:30.
I missed too many games the last few years. I am taking the time to enjoy my favorite time of year. Hope I never put the Steelers above the Lord, but I see no reason why He would want me to eliminate them from the equation.

The kid's schedule came out today. Opening game is Sunday at 12:30pm. I told him if we have to miss the game, he damn well better take one to the house.

I'm waiting for AJ to set the line for turnovers in this game.

Well, fuck me.
Local Fox chimps have decided to go with Lions/Bears at noon, so I can't even record the game.
I think the last time I missed a Steelers game was during that 6-10 season at the end of the 90s.

I'll be flying back from L.A. from Steelers kick-off through the evening games. I thought about taking a red eye so I could at least watch at a bar, but I'm still holding out hope I can convince the wifey that I should fly to Nashville the following week to catch the game (so I don't want to push my luck at home...or at work, where my vacay days are limited for the remainder of the year). Hoping American has TV on the plane.

This is not a hard situation to deal with, Joetorreous.
1. Skip the flight, and pay the fee to catch a later one.
2. Call the wifey and tell her your flight is delayed because of Hurricane Lamarr.
3. Watch the game in an airport bar.
Sheesh, kids these days.

I had same options, plus couple others. Screw concessions - not much point in going to kid's game if you can't watch it. I'm on chain gang.
First game tomorrow for middle school. My kid's the kicker - only position Mom is OK with, plus really all he wants to do at this point. He's solid on PATs, can hit 30+ yd FG when he's on - not bad for 7th grade.
Grooming the next Jeff Reed - minus the alcohol hopefully.

30+ at 7th grade is damn good by my recollection. Seems like 30+ for most HS players is iffy.

I guess you could start the aversion therapy now with a twelver of Schlitz. You may have to force the last 7 or 8 down him though. A few whacks to the head from a hand-towel dispenser should do the trick!

Well, what's the point of not including the alcohol? He'll turn to it eventually, since he's only gonna get the chicks on that every once in a while he nails one for the win as time runs out.
By some friggin' miracle, we're actually getting the Steelers game. I have no idea how that happened. I must've been good lately.

Problem is, he finds better beer. Then it's off to the races, kid in a candy store, crooked Bill in a limo full of sluts, Finny amongst the NyQuiltinis, Rex Ryan in the expletive factory, etc.
Then he finds Scotch.
Then, ya know, it's all over.

Thanks guys, guess I'll go ahead and sign him up for rehab now.
Pretty good for first game. 1/1 on PATs, a no doubter. No FG attempts, 2 respectable kickoffs. Subbed for punter in 2nd half, 30 yards.
Only down side was he has definitely picked up the Jeff Reed kickoff coverage technique. One started coming back at him and he bailed. Fortunately someone else caught the dude. Then again, can't blame him since I think some of those kids were old enough to shave.

OK- it looks like I'm going to cave-in and go to the baseball game with the fam. The game starts here at 11:00 and we won't need to leave the house until about 12:15, so I'll get at least halfway through the 2nd qtr. I can prolly watch the rest of the game before the Sunday night game starts.

Yeep, but unfortunately the Panthers are more "local." - by about 50 miles, plus they are "Carolina" Panthers, so partially our state team too theoretically.
Bad week for that. Steelers need to be defending champs more often. Got so many games last year almost cancelled Ticket anyway regardless of price. But figured that wouldn't last.

Well, they lost 34-0, so there's not much for stats. I think they'll mostly be playing teams that have kids that have already been playing for a year or two.
He caught a screen pass...then was immediately gang tackled.
Had one decent run...the rest, he was met in the backfield.
One nice tackle where he miraculously took a good angle from across the field and tackled a guy on the sideline.
And one tackle to keep them out of the EZ on a conversion. That's why it was 34 and not 35
Even though they were torched, he had a great time. And he's not playing soccer. I can't complain.
