From the World Wide Leader

Quote
• Both teams must have the opportunity to possess the ball once during the extra period, unless the team that receives the opening kickoff scores a touchdown on its initial possession, in which case it is the winner.

• If the team that possesses the ball first scores a field goal on its initial possession, the other team shall have the opportunity to possess the ball. If [that team] scores a touchdown on its possession, it is the winner. If the score is tied after [both teams have a] possession, the team next scoring by any method shall be the winner.

• If the score is tied at the end of a 15-minute overtime period, or if [the overtime period's] initial possession has not ended, another overtime period will begin, and play will continue until a score is made, regardless of how many 15-minute periods are necessary.

Like I said before, WTF?  This is an asinine compromise, worse than the "problem" it set out to fix.

I actually like it a little better than the old format, at least it will take away the horrible feeling of having lost just because the other team drives to the 35 on the first possession.

It helps offset STs that can't tackle a returner until he gets to the 35...

30 yards and kick?  Fine, now we get our shot.

Go to OT against the Pats and you'd be scared to kick the opening OT drive FG. Might make for some aggressive play calls on that opening drive.

Yeah, I don't mind that.  Just remove the "unless" part of the first bullet and be done with it.  Don't needlessly pucify (or Goodellerize) the rule.

Goodell would take away OT TDs if the team scoring the TD was really mean about it.

Though it will likely be a rare occurrence, if the team that receives the overtime kickoff gets pinned for a safety, the game is over.

This is the one way for the game to end without a field goal or a touchdown. That's because the receiving team will have had its one possession while the team that earned the safety receives the ball on the ensuing free kick. The team that received the two points will have two possessions without the other team scoring; hence, the game is over.

Essentially, ANY defensive point scoring means the game is over.

Oh man, Brady getting sacked in the endzone to end the AFCC in foxboro. Greatest moment in sports history?

Yeah, but our luck it'll be defensive holding...

Goodell's got a direct comm to the ref's earpiece...
