Lockout - 2011

Looking for the jinx in starting this.
I'm hoping that this thread ends up being a relatively short one, but the more and more I read, I fear it'll be on the longer side.
Right now, I'd set the O/U of number of regular season games missed at two.
These next two and a half weeks are crucial and both sides can't even manage to agree on scheduling and when/where the fuck to have meetings. If they can't reach an agreement by the deadline (or agree to extend the deadline - doubtful), nothing, and I mean,
nothing
will occur after March 4th other than the draft. And, teams will be limited in what they can do at the draft since trading of players isn't permitted, only trading of picks.
Not good, kids.

I'll just say that I think the players are right about a lot of things. But ultimately the owners will win.

You mean two "regular" regular seasongames, or 2 games under the new 18 game season?!?!
I have to say, I side with the owners. I think they spend a boat load of dough for a lot of different things (medical staff {surgeons, operations etc}, practice facility, stadium stuff, coaching staff, GM, scouts, etc etc.).
I'd love to know what some owners make from owning the the Football team, after expenses. Within that, what does Jerry Jones, make compared to Rooney's, compared to Bills ownership etc.

Looks like you've been missing a lot of work lately.
I wouldn't say I've been *missing* it, Bob.

Then the owners need to be forthcoming about opening their books. Ask for that and suddenly everything becomes anxious.

I don't think the 18 game season will ever come to fruition. At least, not for this CBA. I think it was always meant as a bargaining chip in negotiations that the owners were willing to concede.

If Vegas were setting the line, I think the number would be heading north. As it stands, I'm gonna take the over.
How the fuck can the owners and players agree when the owners aren't even on the same page themselves? There's a reason why during all of these "negotiations" and mediation, the owners have been mysteriously low key, if not absent. For the most part, you see players reps and the league suits.
Plus, with Doty ruling in favor of the players (correctly, IMO) over that TV money, it only further widens the chasm of trust between the two sides.
Frankly, I'm kinda surprised the public outcry hasn't been louder. I think a lot of people just assume and take it for granted that something will get done because the league has been so popular and successful. Surely,
surely
they won't do anything to derail that gravy train, right? Right?? Wrong.
Man, I hope I'm wrong, but this doesn't look like it's going to get solved anytime soon. We're talkin' months, peeps.
