I'm not ready to stop talking Penguins hockey. Just seems wrong. This is what we have going into this offseason:
UFAs and the money they made last season:
1)Alexei Kovalev-$5.0 Million
2)Pascal Dupuis-$1.4 Million
3)Max Talbot-$1.05 Million
1)Dustin Jeffery-$509,444(what a weird number)
What's gonna happen?
I can see TK Money getting an offer from another team that we aren't willing to match. We retain Jeffery and Tangradi. We'll resing Adams, Dupuis(hopefully at a discount), and Connor for sure. I'd like to hold on to Mad Max, but his salary is a little steep for his production or lack there of. If he's willing to take a hometown discount then great, but if he's looking to cash in, I wish him the best of luck with another team. Preferably one in the Western Conference. Kovy is gone. Good riddance. I hope Rupp will stay, but I don't see Asham staying. I could see him ending up back in Philly. Godard and Comrie, who really gives a shit at this point? Engelland is more of a valuable asset, and can throw fists with the best of them. Godard is basically obsolete at this point. And Mr. Duff didn't show anything special in his limited time. So he's definitely gone. If we can't hold onto TK, Max, or Dupuis. I think Letestu, Tangradi, and Jeffery are ready to fill those roles.
This is interesting. I wonder what's going to happen with Geno? Assuming he will be back for the start of the season. There were talks of him returning to the playoffs because the knee injury wasn't as bad as initially expected. If Geno is back, does he go back to center? Or does he play wing like the talks last offseason indicated?
Not sure how that's going to play out.
Niskanen is scheduled to make $1.5 Million next season. How much of a cap hit would we take if we just cut his ass? That seems a little pricey considering he is, at best, just depth.
Will we have enough cap space after resinging the guys we want to add maybe a top six quality winger?

I agree with you about TK. 24 year old coming off a 20+ goal season who has shown the ability to score since he's been in the NHL. Unless he takes a hometown discount, someone like Edmonton who has trouble attracting free agents will probably overpay. I got no problem bringing him back to play on the 2nd or 3rd line, but not at what he is probably going to command.
Talbot is another interesting case. He's a rockstar in Pittsburgh but would probably just be another guy somewhere else. I could see a team overpaying him for some reason for his past playoff performances, etc. I offer him 800k-1 million to come back and do BMW commercials. If not, adios.
Adams and Conner will 100% be back. Adams is dirt cheap and worth every penny. Hopefully Conner can develop into a Kennedy-type, although his size seems to limit him. I bring back Dupuis for the same as he's making now. Not the handsiest guy in the world but he's worth that cap hit for what he brings to the table as a borderline top six guy/penalty killer. Rupp may be back as well, and definitely will be if talbot scoots, maybe at a slight raise. Asham is probably gone. Godard, Comrie are gone, no use for either.
The top six is interesting. Even though they are both left wings I'd like to find a way to get Neal and Kunitz on Sids line. I just think that line could really do some damage with Kunitz creating havoc, Sid working his magic along the boards and Neal finding spots to rip one-timers. Doubt that happens though. I also hate the Malkin to wing experiment. The guy is a natural playmaking center, shitty faceoff percentage be damned.
probably going to see something like this:
Kovy's lazy penalty taking ass can fuck off, but I wouldn't mind bringing in an "offensive specialist" type to help on the power-play and chip in some scoring elsewhere. Not eveyone on the team but Sid and Geno have to be a fucking grinder. Maybe someone like Tanguay? But I'm fine with the lineup listed above.
The top four on defense is set. Not sure what they are going to do with Niskanen. depres is probably another year away and Niskanen is a competent top 6 guy. Strait may be ready to contribute next year. Lovejoy and Engelland still have room to grow and are ok with me. Wouldn't mind bringing in another physical presence if they don't feel that Engelland is going to take that step forward.
I guess all in all, I don't expect much shakeup. They will lose a couple wingers but their offseason acquisitions will be getting Cooke, Sid, and Geno back. Has the look of a top 3 team in the east (if everyone is healthy) along with Philly and Washington.
