I keep reading early whispers from camp gushing about Baron Batch:  some nice running moves, and more importantly, dude is a stud blocker.  Held his own against Harrison, who patted him on the helmet.  Either James is going soft, or we just got some RB depth.

Early wish:  I hope we can have Batch save 2 roster spots (Dwyer, MeMo) and open some cap space for picking up someone after camp cuts to add OL depth.

I'd say Bettis is the last non-draft "big name" they brought in (and was that via trade? I don't recall...if so, probably even a bigger surprise that they made such a move). Before that and since, I have no idea.

Bettis was acquired for a R2 and a R4, and then the Rams traded for Marshall Faulk with a R2 and a R5, so they basically broke even.  A real win-win trade for both teams.

We picked up some former R1 bust named James Farrior after he left the Jets as a FA.  Got some FA guard named Jeff Hartings after he left the Lions.

Don't forget that we got some OLB guy who was cut from the Steelers and then the Ravens and came back as a scrub... what's his name?  James something?

Three good pick-ups for sure...I guess my mind was zeroed in on skills positions. But still, we're talking about practice! four people.

The upside is that when your system is good at developing talent, you have less need for FAs and fewer open roster spots.

Still, anyone who's happy with this OL and DB group is on crack.

Ship McFadden or Gay and a R6 for Asante.

Or ship McFadden and Gay and a R6 Asante, and it will be addition by subtraction plus addition.

Fuck.  I'd send a R3 or probably even a R2 for him.  For Pittsburgh, a R2 should be close to R3, anyway.

Besides, it's not like Colbert has a history of doing much with R2s...my boy, Woodman excepted.

TBH, I'd like to keep McFad for the nickel.  He's alright in that role.

Actually, he and 100% are both OK there, so long as neither is pressed into a starting role.

Hope our rookie CB learns shit fast, because the other youngsters haven't shown shit yet (Lewis, Butler).  So depressing.

I've heard Lewis has looked good at camp.
