The NFL-saturated media make a classic mistake when the season begins.  They overreact to everything…in preseason, in week 1, and in every week that follows.  One win and you’re the Second Coming of the ’85 Bears.  One bad loss and you’re the Detroit Lions of _____________ (insert year of choice).

In the words of Jerry Seinfeld, “Let’s not lose our heads here!”

A few reasons why it is way too early to panic:

1.  Been there, done that:  It hasn’t happened in the opener in recent years, but this is hardly the first time the Steelers have laid a huge early season egg.  Remember the Eagles in ’08?  Score was closer, but the beat-down was similar.

2.  The young and talented receivers looked a lot more young than talented.  Surely, that’s going to improve.

3.  Ravens clearly had more emotional investment in this game than the Steelers.  Disconcerting as that is, I suspect the Steelers are taking a “wait and see” approach to all this “Ravens are King” talk.

4.  Remember ’03?  The Steelers ran all over Baltimore.  The season ended with the Ravens winning the division at 13-3, and the Steelers entering the Big Ben Sweepstakes.

5.  For heaven’s sake people…it’s WEEK ONE.  There are 16 more of these, so let’s just chill and see how it all shakes out.

I wouldn't say I've been *missing* it, Bob.

I think I beat him to it but I'm just waking up now.  I missed my shot.

6. We have a genius at OC, who will not outsmart himself and will call plays designed to account for a Swiss cheese line. Three-step drops and dink and dunks will be the norm. Grinding to keep the aged D off the field will be a bonus, too.
