It's a sad day for Pitt, and not because of the awful 4th quarter in Iowa.

Is there any sense of this being a football-only move?  I haven't been following it that closely.

Nothing I'm seeing reads football-only.  It appears that hoops & olympic sports go as well.

Yeah, and I saw a quote where Koach K kalled it a "coup" for the ACC in hoops. I guess it strengthens Pitt recruiting-wise, but they're not going to be able to succeed with the style they play now.

This is a good move for Pitt.  The Big East is doomed b/c of those basketball schools that don't play football.  If the Big East tries to expand even to 12 football schools, it's going to result in a basketball conference of 20(b/c St. John's, DePaul, Marquette, Villanova, Seton Hall, Georgetown, and Providence don't have football and ND is in but not in football.)  With the trend moving towards football conferences of 14-16, the Big East's only chance of survival IMO is to kick out the small schools that don't have football, b/c a 22-24 team conference is just too great.  And I don't see them ever trying to kick those schools out.

I agree, Pitt had to do this.  Big East will only get raided more in the future.  ONly wonder if they might have waited to see if Big 10(12) called.

Makes sense to ACC too, as it gets some connection to Boston College (still wish they'd send them back).

Think WVU more or less likely to join ACC now?  Already 5 former conference foes in ACC. 

Options for future ACC additions:  UConn, Rutgers, South Fla, Louisville.  UConn and Louisville make most sense.
