I've been curious about the new novel 1Q84 since I first read about it a few months ago.  Anyone read anything by Murakami?

Also, just saw Terrence Malick's Tree of Life, with Sean Penn and Brad Pitt, based off some very positive reviews.  Funny thing: reviewers at IMDB tend to give it a 1-star rating or a 10-star rating, with little if any middle ground.  It's either a pretentious piece of shit or a fucking brilliant work of art.  So I'm curious to know if anyone has seen it, because in my mind the movie is sort of both simultaneously.  Mrs. Finny fucking hated it.  I didn't mind the abstraction but felt it went just a tad fucking overboard with all the dinosaurs and cosmos with operatic shit wailing.  Yeah, I get it, but dude, you just totally blew out the fucking cohesion that even an abstract film sort of craves, an internal cohesion.  Now if I had had a big rasta spliffer beforehand...  dinosaurs!  Woo!  Cosmos!  Windows!  Trees!  Wows!

I've read reviews for 1Q84 and am very interested.  Have read nothing by the author.  Haven't seen TOL either, sounds like wait for it on TV type.
