Looks like the national news is picking up on one aspect of the story that I thought was also very coincidental:  What happened to Centre County DA Ray Gricar in 2005?

Gricar was investigating the Sandusky thing and then poof, vanishes.

Makes you wonder.

Yeah, I heard about that on Monday too.  From what I remember though, they reported that he disappeared after he decided not to prosecute.

If Paterno and Penn State knew, but didn't act, instead facilitating Sandusky's untroubled retirement - are Paterno and Penn State responsible for untoward acts since committed by Sandusky?

Undoubtedly. Criminally so, I'd say.  And if Madden was writing about this stuff in friggin' April, why is it only now becoming an issue?  WTF?

The local rag (Harrisburg Patriot-News) wrote about it back in March.  It's not been a secret, there just hasn't been any movement by the AG's office until now -- supposing they were doing their due diligence.  Hell, then-AG Corbett (now Gov.) started this investigation years ago.  The more you look the more you find?

I think Paterno blindered himself, didn't want to know, passed the buck.  Yeah, followed the letter of PSU's rules concerning these kinds of things.  If he really knew more, or believed that there was more to it, I think he would have acted differently.  Just didn't want to get involved, and wanted to let the administration do its job.  That's where it got derailed, those fuckjobs just swept it under the rug, JoePa assumed it wasn't all that McQuery seemed to think it was, he put it out of mind.  There's a lot of false accusations of players, coaches, faculty, and JoePa probably worngly lumped this in with those sorts of things.  Purely speculating here, I just can';t believe Paterno would cover up child abuse.  Period.  Ducked his head in the sand, and hindsight proves this was the wrong thing to do.  He trusted the administration to do the right thing.  They didn't.

That's probably true.
