Jason La Canfora of NFL Network is reporting Smith is out, though as yet unsubstantiated else.
Rumors that Farrior's hitting the bricks via his agent via Twitter.
Big changes afoot, my friends.

He'll retire according to him. Another great player gone. End of an era. Do any pre-2K players remain on the roster? I guess Farrior. After that?

It was time. The whole shebang was getting long in the tooth and that ain't good in the NFL.

We are now >$10M under the cap, so can sign rooks, RFAs, and make some moves WRT to MW. Once either Farrior and/or Foote are cut, the MW deal gets done, IMO.

I hate to see some of these guys go that have made the team great over the past decade plus, but this needed to happen in order for the Steelers to remain competitive next year and beyond. They were able to hide it for much of the season, but when they looked old last year, they looked
old

And
Farrior
is now official too. Tough to see it all going down at one time with Hines and Smith, quality guys all.
Read it was either/or with Farrior/Foote, but still would not be shocked if Foote is axed.
FO saves about $3M with Potsie. Not sure with Foote, about the same-ish, IIRC.

Necessary evils of the salary cap era. What these players meant to this organization/fans/city will not be measured in the same way that it was with the names of the 70s. But I'm not sure it's that much less impressive. They took three trips to the big dance and brought home two titles; and kept the Steelers at the top of the NFL for more than a decade. It's a rare accomplishment in this day and time.

I know we will have been grooming some players to fill the rolls of the players that have been cut, but it sure make me nervous that we are getting too young too quick.
2011 opening day starters Cut, or going to be cut
Ward
Farrior
Foote
Smith - (IR)
Hampton
Kemoeatu
Thats alot of leadership gone...
