It is a minor miracle that this article was written without mentioning the loss to the Broncos. But then, no one ever accused Ed Bouchette of being (intentionally) funny.

It's in there now...
Quote from: Boo
In the regular season, the first team that scores any way wins. In the playoffs, each team is guaranteed at least one possession unless the team receiving the ball first scores a touchdown -- which happened in the Steelers' playoff loss at Denver when the Broncos struck with an 80-yard touchdown pass on the first play from scrimmage in overtime.

Why would Bouchette assume it was a the request of Tomlin to change the OT rules for the regular season. They still would have lost to Denver. His assertion makes no sense. Besides, why extend regular season games? I prefer the old OT rules anyways.
I like the other two though, especially the IR exception. And to
avoid potential lawsuits
protect the NFL's stars and thus their gravy train
"protect the players" doesn't Douchell have to go for the horse-collar change?

Overtime should be decided by field goals (like a soccer shootout) via the following process:
Each team has to identify 5 non-kicker starting players to take tries from 25 yards out:
1 Offensive Linemen
1 Defensive Linemen
1 Offensive skill (QB, RB, WR)
1 Defensive secondary/linebacker
1 Special teams (not a kicker)
If still tied after 5 kicks, any non-kicker player can go go next until one teams wins.

ONly against the Saints who, not surprisingly, trade taint kicks to settle disputes over the bounty pots.
